Former U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, the outspoken Pennsylvania centrist whose switch from Republican to Democrat ended a 30-year career in which he played a pivotal role in several Supreme Court nominations, died Sunday.

My condolences to the Specter family on your loss.

He was one of the last real moderates or self-thinkers and for that, we owe him a great deal. He always went about making decisions with a great deal of conviction whether you agreed with him or not. He was never afraid to step up and disagree with either party.
