They keep trying to frame the question into giving the pipeline company free reign to do what it wants or we'll punish you instead of "what is required to make the pipeline 'safe enough'".

Right wingers especially like to foist costs onto the public while running the game close to 'criminal' irresponsibility. And fighting pipeline standards, regulation and inspection at the political level.

"Jeb Bush and Interior Secretary Gale Norton told reporters after a brief meeting with the president that the actions will help preserve the Florida Panhandle's pristine coastline."

"It just didn't seem right that 25 miles off that coast there would be the possibility of drilling, and today that possibility no longer exists," Bush said...

didnt seem right Mr.Jeb??

Environmental impact statement (SEIS, ) is now available. It was written BY Dues Paying Members of the American Petroleum Institute. API has spent $22 million lobbying on behalf of its members on KXL and tar sands since its initial June 2008 proposal, on top of the cash it has spent on its relentless public relations and advertising efforts. Conflict of interest anyone?

Even worse, they won't release the exact ROUTE of the pipeline which makes their entire analysis BULL of the highest order. They can say ANYTHING and nobody can check it because they can just say 'that's not on the pipeline route'. Not that they say anything. The language is so vague and lacking details they do not support ANY of their claims.

The pipeline dangerous for the length and lack of industry accountability.

Now we see the manipulation behind the scenes disabling actual public accountability for environmental impacts, foreseen or not.

It will raise the cost of gasoline to US Midwest customers.

And the oil is for EXPORT, not even benefiting the US gulf coast.

If this isn't veto'd then Obama is not doing his job to protect the PUBLIC good.
