Common Sense is right. WHY In the Hell are College Costs, which ARE FIXED, Rising Faster than Health Care Costs?
It's because it's all this Free Money politicians are throwing around. These bloated Loans are creating an artificial bubble.
If you look at some of the university majors that weren't there 30 years ago, it is easy to see why costs are up. One clown majored in ventriloquism. The school had to hire faculty to support that major. The list of rediculous majors is long or as odummy would say unprecedented...just look at the schedule of classes at a few schools.
Majors and grad degrees like Northern European poetry, roots, etc. need to be eliminated and faculty hired to support those types of useless degrees need to be laid off.

Secondly, most universities allow tenured professors to teach 3 hours per semester. The rest of their time is spent chasing skirts around campus and playing god. Faculty members should be forced to teach 12 hours per semester or find jobs at other institutions. There are plenty of good GA's who would take those jobs for less money and probably do a better job.

Then there is the issue of useless senior positions at every university. University of Virginia, a school that I am very familiar with, hired a director of sensativity a few years ago. In his job description, he was charged with eliminating hate speech...in other words, limit or eliminate first amendment rights. Every university heirarchy is loaded with these types of useless positions.

I have to work and help to pay my own kids way through college and now Obama thinks he should raise my payroll taxes to help other kids too. We are raising a generation of mama boys and girls.

In the late 1990's, the Clinton administration offered a $1500 "Hope Grant" in the form of a tax break for the beleaguered parents of college students who were remortgaging their houses and borrowing insanely on PLUS loans. I can only speak from my own experience but the schools my children were attending raised tuition immediately by $2000. I anticipate tuition increases if interest rates on student loans are maintained at a low rate or further reduced. There is well-meaning intent on the part of legislators even if part of their altruism has to do with attracting the votes of college age youth. Unfortunately every dollar of current or projected savings will be factored in by the colleges and universities. They are no different than any other for profit business except that they have more latitude in changing the rules of the game than most other enterprises.

One thing is certain education costs to much. How come we never look into where the rising costs are coming from?
My guess is that a large part of it is premium retirement packages and a glut of "middle management" positions.
Anyone care to prove me wrong?
The first place to look at the cost of education is the cost and salaries of the administration..........and their union benefits. Just another way the left launders money back to them selves.

Republicans wanted to let the interest rates double for student loans, but the backlash was such that people like Boner and Romney got scared sh*tless and are now busy trying to suck up to students
they were willing to screw over.

Rachel Maddow and NBC Struggle With Satire

By John Hudson
Feb 1, 2011

The Internet's finest satirists hooked a big fish in the media world last night. In an embarrassing segment on her MSNBC show, Rachel Maddow slammed conservatives for attacking President Obama's Egypt policies. Her targets included Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, former ambassador to the UN John Bolton and Stephenson Billings at ChristWire.org . Only problem is Stephenson Billings is not a real person. He's a fictional byproduct of a website that also warns readers that the Xbox Kinect is a terrorist training tool and the Japanese have created scary robot babies which "threaten humanity."

The article that caught Maddow's eye called for an "American-led invasion" into Egypt and begged former Alaska governor Sarah Palin to lead the war cry.

"The escalating crisis in Egypt could become a defining moment for Sarah Palin," Billings wrote. "Governor Palin needs to speak out publicly and forcibly for an American-led invasion to protect our interests in North Africa."

In the following clip (which MSNBC scrubbed from its website) Maddow falls for the article hook, line and sinker:

http://www.theatlanticwire.com/entertainment/... #

The fact that ChristWire isn't a sincere Christian web forum has been a difficult lesson for the mainstream media to learn—especially NBC and its affiliates. The Atlantic Wire first outed ChristWire last July, when NBC's New York and Los Angeles affiliates published an article about the Christian right boycotting actor Bill Murray. NBC's Drew Magary linked to a ChristWire article calling Murray a "murderer of lambs" and a "fatal disease" to America's children.

The article's author? Stephenson Billings. Maybe the company should flag this guy in its employee handbook. He's NOT a REAL PERSON! LMAO!

Now to Maddow's credit, her blog acknowledged the mistake quickly after the broadcast aired. Last night, the Maddow Blog tweeted:

The bad news about a free and open internet? Sometimes you get had by brilliant satirists. Christwire: 1 TRMS: 0less than a minute ago via webMaddow Blog
MaddowBlog

Maddow's humility sparkles in comparison to The Huffington Post's, which upon being duped by ChristWire last August, simply erased parts of the article that showed they weren't in on the joke. In that instance, ChristWire had published an advice guide for women on how to tell if their husbands are gay. The mistake caught the attention of The New York Times which pressed the website on the issue and finally elicited a concession.“We did get hoodwinked,” Huffington Post spokesperson Mario Ruiz admitted.

C'mon people. Google searches! They're not that hard.
