Absolutely correct!

Why should internet freeloaders get to profit while businesses with a real location who pay lots of taxes are put at a disadvantage?

You say that with conviction! "Absolutely".

People that sell over the internet are not freeloaders. They are movers. When they make money, they will spend a portion of that money on goods and services in their state, adding to the revenue of that state.

If merchants are forced to pay unjust taxes then I'll bet that in the end people that are located in the United States will finally move out of country to do business. You've just made two steps backwards. Now a state will get nothing to very little benefit from tax revenue.

Governor Quinn of Illinois has signed a bill to collect a state tax on items sold in Illinois. Now for sure the State will get no benefit. And those merchants will either go out of business or move to another state.

Quinn made a mistake and a big one by over stepping the Supreme court ruling that has been in place for many years. I guess those 'freeloaders' will not be buying big ticket items like cars and hard goods, refrigerators and insurance and grocery items and gas in the State of Illinois anymore.

Chian Man

Doing away with the sales tax would put MA retailers on a level playing field with online retailers and the state of NH. It would be bad news for NH though.
