After agreeing to kill earmarks, some of the most conservative GOP lawmakers are already starting to ask themselves: What have we done? Indeed, many Republicans are now worried that the bridges in their districts won't be fixed, the tariff relief to the local chemical company isn't coming and the water systems might not be built without a little ...

Banning earmarks will not work unless everyone does so. It's a stupid idea if all the Dems continue to use earmarks and suck all the money into their States.

The elimination of earmarks needs to become part of the system. It is not something that can be enforced by one side and exploited by the other.

Is anyone surprised? Earmarks are what keep politicians in office. It's a cycle. Lobbyists and PACS give money, politicians return the favor.

After agreeing to kill earmarks, some of the most conservative GOP lawmakers are changing their mind. Imagine that, a politician changing their
position. They always do right after They get elected spouting the other side. Then in 4 years the sheeple forget what was done to them.

big talk from the republicans about fiscal responsibility. in just the last three days they have increased the deficit and now want to add to it. but don't give seniors a lousy $250 a year but give massive tax breaks for their rich little piggy friends. once again the repubs will increase spending as they always do.

Wow. What a surprise. Politicians say one thing, get elected, then change their story when they see if they do what they said, they won't get reelected.

Suddenly there won't be any road or bridge projects? What exactly is the Federal Highway Administration for or the Federal Department of Transportation for?
How did any of these projects get done before the era of 20,000 earmarks?
The ones that poisoned the the deal were the likes of the Robert C Byrd projects listed here, the John Murtha Airport and Jim Oberstar bicycle trails, rest stops and such that money was squandered on while bridges collapsed.
If it gets to that point, toss them out too.

What a bunch of B.S. They campaigned on "NO EARMARKS" get elected and now when they see that they wont be able to line their pockets so easy without earmarks ,they want to come up with some new name for them so they can keep on stealing the tax payers money.Ban earmarks forever and make every project go through the proper channels for funding. What a bunch of no good lyers.

When an unemployed person becomes employed, their employer does pay unemployment tax, hope you now understand how it works.

The Republicans were always wrong to call for an end to earmarks. Most of us liberal voters knew that - only conservative voters decided to trump reason with madness, anger, and argument.

Sure, some politicians have taken advantage of the earmark system, lining their pockets, and their financial supporters, with a ton of cash. However, MOST states can not afford the large scale projects businesses and residents depend upon in their every day lives. A great example is our nation's Interstate Highways, systems like 90 and 94 that criss-cross several states east and west, and brings considerable freight from Minnesota and into Minnesota. Without earmark projects to fix these roadways when repair is needed, the roads will crumble to a point where no one will be able to use them. The voting public needs to educate itself more about where money goes and why, instead of proclaiming, irrationally, that the money is going to some one other than themselves, or that money is going into the hands of the undesirable people the voters don't want living in their neighborhoods.

One person's earmark is another person's pork.

I think with the exception of the interstate hwy and roads in national parks the feds should stop funding roads.

There are no "Good Earmarks" or 'Bad Ear Marks", there are just earmarks. I am a Republican that lives in the St. Croix Valley, and desperately want to see a new Stillwater Bridge finished soon. Never the less, there is no way I can support any kind of Ear mar;, Bachman should not either. She can't have it both ways. She just got re-elected, with a strong Anti earmark position. If she continues down this path, she is just another sleazy politician, that will say and do anything to get re-elected.
