Released in June, a national study by the American Journal of Medicine (.PDF) showed that 62% of bankruptcies in 2007 were tied to medical expenses. That's what a constituent told Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA) at a recent town hall, but despite his bankruptcy, Kingston told the man he did "very well."

Yea, right. Obama is evil because he wants to have health care for all. Do you realize how ignorant you come across to not only Democrats but by moderate repug's also? Didnt Laura Bush have a f*cked up eye also? She always came across to me as being mildly retarded.

You must be one of those healthcare leaches that suck every dime out of poor people and are afraid you'll lose your freedom to keep doing it. Doesn't seem to bother you either that a lot of people are dying in this country for lack of money to pay people like you. You must be a Republican. You're not much of an American.

So because some have gone bankrupt due to medical bills, ALL of us should be subject to gov't provided healthcare? I would ask how much and what kind of insurance did they have? Most policies have million dollar lifetime limits. That is alot of medical care. Unless you have an extreme case. There are catastrophic policies people can purchase that have low premiums, but are meant to cover only major occurances like cancer, debilitating diseases and injuries, even pregnancy. these policies usually have higher deductables but then cover at 100% and can keep people from going bankrupt. The article stated the elderly man WAS able to be treated even though he did NOT have insurance. He stated he was now "functionally bankrupt", maybe he should just be thankful he could get treatment and that he's alive. The article talked about the long lines in emergency rooms. The article fails to state how many of those clogging the emergency rooms are ILLEGALS and shouldn't be here in the first place. We as a country CANNOT make up for the inability of some who for whatever the reason whether it be money or irresponsibility do not have adequate coverage. The reality is we need reform, no one denies that but there will always be those who can't afford insurance.

AMERICA doesn't care about what the neo-cons think. They had 8 years to ruin this nation, and did an awesome job at it.

Hey, you sound mean, and yet you can never be as mean as the one you replied to. The way to reat is to be morally superior to those people, not to be naty to Laura Bush. You can do better than that. Why not discuss the actual topic? Criticize kingston. It is tacky to to attack Laura. What did she do wrong, except have a stupid choice of a man to fall for.The commenter before you is sheer evil, and you did not do any good for your point of view by being nasty toward a lady There should have been an extreme difference between MDE's comment and yours - yours should have been fair and wise and intelligent, and to the point of the topic.

See how easy the right-wing evil ones make it for us to be more decent than they are? They are gross and obscene, and naty and hateful, and stupid and all bad things. so those of us who disagree should always be as wise and civil as possible, except when we get annoyed and tell them what we think of them, the right-wing nut commenters, or of Kingston. But even that can be done in a more high-minded and civilized way. almost anything is more high-minded and civilized that these right-wing extremsit nut-cases.

And to back up that judgement I point to the fact that IF America didn't care about the neocons, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Nice articles and it shows they are still better than the care given in the US. How many woman gave birth in locations other than the labor delivery room over the past 6 years in the US?

My insurance coverage denied the medication prescribed.

And when EVERYONES taxes are raised to the level of equaling a couple of mortgage payments to pay for the cost of national health care (along with the porkulus trillions), then what?

Do a little research. Check out the tax rates of countries with gov't run health care. Sure, you may not go bankrupt, but you'll be living in your car.
