Sorry Jay. Wrong guy. Gut Buster lives in Ospry Cove and is a retired Warrent Officer. We tagged units off and on during our time in the Army. I was an infantryman as a private in 61-63 in Germany. Never got a CIB was never a pathfinder or ever got a Navy award. I was in the same unit MACV in 65/66 and 68/69 I was a field guy in 65/66 and did the same work in the Delta with the navy and supported the marines up north. Most people assigned to the 563d detachment did that kind of work until the unit stand down in 1970. Gut Buster worked in the Middle East as did I, but on different assignments. I don't cared for him and he knows it. What I did in the Army was in another time. I'm a nicer person. I also flew an American flag yestorday. I also think they are entitled to a beer.

And here I thought that the American flag was a timeless symbol that transcends partisan politics. Congratulations. You managed to make an ass of yourself AND dishonor every soldier who served, and is serving, our country.

"they don't mean chit anymore, they represent a corrupt BS government."

This comment stuck in my head like rotten gum to the bottom of my shoe. One last word on the nauseating actions of Tony (if he did indeed do as he said).
The flag and uniform represent the sacrifices of fellow Americans throughout our history. They are not the symbols of any passing administration but the precious manifestations of shared heroism, ideals, unity and honor. Do you buy and trash a flag with each new president with whom you disagree? If so then your "patriotism" is a feeble and ephemeral thing and you are not worthy of either flying our nation's flag or wearing a uniform. It is my sincere hope that you will not further sully the memory of our soldiers (either those gone or those who fight on) by attending any services in their honor. Stay in your home and hang your head in shame.
(If, on the other hand, you simply decided to toss a grenade of ignorance into this thread then I have to wonder about your sanity).

You're just scaring me now, Jay. In that you openly despise me, it's disconcerting to have you, of all people", respond with "Amen" and "Double amen" to any of my comments. Could it be...is it possible...that we could agree on this one issue? Clearly pigs do fly!

Back to lowering the drinking age: it is a matter of logic. If you are old enough to marry, vote, stand up to the challenges that face our military and perform as a citizen, you are old enough to have a beer.

Apparently Jack Kingston has taken this on as his cause celebre (politicians have an uncanny ability to champion that which will bring in votes).
A particularly strange man said to me "If you lower the age to eighteen you'll have a hell of a lot of guys signing up just to drink!" Riiiight.

While I am all for recognizing our soldiers as adults, and allowing them to drink ... I find it ironic that after the federal government blackmailed the states into raising their drinking age, they lower the drinking age on federal property.

Glasnost ends in a t.

Talk to us Navy vets of the Zumwalt days. Hell, we literally had beer machines (like soda machines, but stocked with beer) in the barracks and even in the mess halls for a cold one with chow! No, I'm talking stateside - not overseas.

"Zummie" did not last long.

I did like the beard thing, though.

Remember when Ohio had 3.2 beer for those 18? It is supposed to be the states who decide drinking age. Then the federal government used it's heavy hand ... demanding all state raise their drinking age to 21 or lose road tax revenue. That sort of extortion should be struck down by the supreme court for trampling states rights. That is not the only thing the federal government usurps from states via revenue extortion.
This country should go back to how the founding fathers set the government up, where the states appoint their senators, to keep the federal government from trampling states rights.

Amen, quite a few states had 3.2 BEER for 18 year olds. Let em drink on base. The 10th Amendment still lives!
