This Memorial Day I remember my father, Jones F. Kennedy (1 July 1915-25 April 2008), United States Navy Submarine Service, World War II for service "which reflected great credit upon himself, the United States Navy, and the United States of America."

His character lives in his favorite Robert Louis Stevenson poem "Requiem":

Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.

This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies where he longed to be;
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.

He remains father...friend...warrior.
