How women's work has been pushed up the US political agenda | Selma James

There are 57 comments on the The Guardian story from Apr 25, 2012, titled How women's work has been pushed up the US political agenda | Selma James. In it, The Guardian reports that:

Hilary Rosen's 'stay at home' mum jibe has led to recognition that all mothers are entitled to welfare for their work - a worthy US import For 40 years some of us have been campaigning to convince governments that carers, beginning with mothers, are marginal neither to the economy nor to political life.

From the Article: What the debate came down to was: should women who were not millionaires have the choice to raise their own kids? The poorest women could not; they could be made to work outside the home without wages in order to qualify for welfare.(This is Workfare, now in the UK as well.) And since good childcare was hard to find as well as unaffordable (ditto the UK), this often means that to get welfare to feed and house their kids, mothers had first to neglect them.

Typical Liberal "entitled" hogwash! Obviously these people are not even trying to open their brains up and actually THINK! I was "there". When my son was born, I too wanted to be a stay-at-home to take care of my son. Daycare "unaffordable"? Simple solution. BECOME THE DAYCARE!

I had my home inspected, went to the appropriate, required classes and became a licensed daycare provided. I not only stayed home to raise my young son, but also open my home to several other children and earned income as a licensed daycare provider. Prior to that, I did bookkeeping work for a small business. Either way, my child was safe, the other children in my care were safe, and I earned an income.

Once my son was old enough to be in school full time, I became employed outside of the home with "flex time" in order to attend to his needs during the day if necessary.

If a mother is home with her child, and wishes to "EARN" an income, there are ways to do so. It just takes a little ambition.

Obama's 'consumer czar' got interest-free loan from Harvard...

U.S. Sen. Scott Brown’s campaign is blasting Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren’s financial history as she campaigns in support of low-interest student loans, saying the Harvard Law professor’s interest-free loan from Harvard means she is too out of touch with students’ everyday struggles.

Warren disclosed the 20-year interest free loan from Harvard, which lent her between $15,000 and $50,000 in 1996, in financial disclosure forms filed with the Senate last September.

“Let me get this straight: struggling students and families pay more, so multi-millionaire Warren can pay nothing? This sweetheart deal adds insult to injury for the students whose high tuition costs have already made Warren released a new ad this week urging Congress to block a bill that would double tuition interest rates for students.Warren, a wealthy one-percenter, and reveals yet again Professor Warren’s hypocritical idea of fairness.

Warren released a new ad this week urging Congress to block a bill that would double tuition interest rates for students. Warren fails in the ad to explain that it was the Pelosi-Reid-Obama congress that passed the bill during Obama’s first two years.

" More voters think Mitt Romney and the Republican Party respect women who work outside the home than think President Obama and the Democrats respect women who stay at home, according to the latest The Hill Poll.

Forty-nine percent of likely voters said the presumptive GOP presidential nominee respects women who have independent careers, while 27 percent said he doesn’t and 24 percent weren’t sure.

When asked if President Obama respects women who stay at home rather than pursue a career, 37 percent of likely voters said he doesn’t and 35 percent said he does. Twenty-nine percent were unsure."

Both rich and poor women can be stay at home moms. The only difference is that the poor women are getting their money from welfare.

Do you really believe that laws will be changed as to be against women? If anything at all, laws need to be tweaked. Slight changes as to use sense in most things we do. And men, slow down. One and one is two. Two and two is four....four and four is eight....bwahaaaa..

Aren't you confused, republicans have done nothing but hold up the constitution that Barry tried to go around using an activist that admits her reason to be a George Town it to stir up a liberal agenda. You loon are doing far more than us to drive voters to Romney.

All I can say is looking at the mammies and cows on welfare with their multiple babies from multiple fathers, it's good we don't have to pay them by the pound.
