He crashed his car into a pillar and wall inside the first level of the hospital parking garage under an "emergency parking only" sign about 125 feet from the emergency room entrance.

By the time somebody noticed the 61-year-old Cuban immigrant in his car and told a police officer in the emergency room, about 20 minutes had gone by.

Officers Angela Luty and Robert Quick found Marin-Fuentes unconscious and unresponsive and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

"With an automobile accident you don't know if the patient needs to be extricated or transported," Leach said Friday. "There are protocols in place to ensure the right thing is done for the right patient at the right time."

She said hospital security officers equipped with a mobile defibrillator were dispatched, and a paramedic went outside to check on the situation.

Sad but this stuff happens.

That's funny because we were all waiting for the first ignorant Jackass to cry like Chicken Little and state that this guy crashing his car & dying never happens in Obamaland.

There are some times that common sense would tell you not wait to read the SOPs. The man was closer to the ER than many of us are to our mailboxes...and he died because they were waiting on what? An ambulance? Fire truck? The cops were already there. Can anyone say Negligence?

And where were the security guards if he was there for 20 minutes before anyone noticed he'd crashed? I flat don't believe that. Otherwise, how would they know it was 20 minutes? Maybe it was 2. Or 45.

The man did not receive treatment because he was not a Republican and had no insurance.

Wrong! He was fully covered under the new "Obamacouldcareless" policy! He was 61 years old and the cost of hospital staff was prohibitive. Better to let him die in the streets, than to burden a government bureaucracy with paperwork.

Hospitals are just not that altruistic, are they?

The lawsuit defense is their best fake excuse for not taking any risks for themselves. IMHO.

It's hardly a Fake Excuse.
You can bet the house that 100's of Negligence Lawyers have sued hospitals when someone in their employ tried to go above & beyond the call of duty and outside of standard procedure.

Tort reform is needed but how are you going to pass it when Obama is Against it because of the Millions the Lawyers Lobby Donated to Him & democrats?

Most of Obamacare has not been inforce yet.
The man did not receive treatment because he was not a Republican and had no insurance. Conservatism is what they call it.

Exactly. One glance at this thread and you see the proof provided by the hateful sociopaths themselves.

Probably another American without any health insurance who never got to see a regular doctor
for check-ups and had to use the emergency entrance
as last resort. Too late obviously.

National health care would make sure such things never happen.

Tort Reform is Protectionism. We have a court system that determines what cases go to court and set settlement amounts.
Negligent hospitals, doctors, and etc. should be sued and the victim should be able to have their day in court and be compensated for the harm that was cause to them.

No no no you are totally wrong again. He had no insurance because of his preexisting condition. Was not able to purchase affordable insurance.

If you are referring to the "Obamacare" that the republicans are repealing, before its even enforced, this makes no sense. Obamacare had nothing to do with this man's death. What I find strange is he had chest pains, and insisted on driving himself alone to a hospital. His wife did not go with him, and now she's blaming the hospital and police for neglect. Well excuse me, if my husband is having chest pains, I'm calling 911 to begin with. Then I'm staying with him while he goes for treatment. I'm not going to let him drive himself all alone. I bet she'll be looking for a lawsuit, but she's partly neglectful too.
