NS Norfolk probably doesn't want it here. 1st, it's a not a Navy ship, it's a MSC vessel. 2nd, the pier in Baltimore is LEASED at a $1M a year. I'm not a math genius but simple payback just for the lease is 10 years. That's not counting all the other costs that are incurred for the ship every year (utilities, parking, etc). 3rd, the same people that work at Bethesda, work at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. In fact, the staff in PNMC have to go to Baltimore when the Confort deploys. I could go on but let the facts speak for themselves. This in not like retrofitting a pier from conventional to nuclear at a billion dollars, This is spenting ten million to get the Navy out of a leased situation.
