The Council on American-Islamic Relations/Florida turned a letter from former Congressman Allen West into a burst of publicity and $2,625. It started in 2011 with a letter in which the Pembroke Pines-based council asked West to cut ties with people the group termed "anti-Islamic extremists." U.S. Rep.
