Did he invite Dr. Ron Paul, the only conservative running?

I would like to think that, but he said "even though I'm not announced as a candidate." There have been calls since last election for him to definately say if he was running or not and he's hurting the party for selfish reasons.

Perhaps part of the purpose of having the candidates present is to let them know that he will not be running but will be available to show his support for those who would wish for him to do so.

I don't think Charles is going to run again Dennis for a lot of reasons and some of them are personal.

He will make his announcement in time to be able to deliver support to whoever does agree to take on Shuler.

Shuler is going to be difficult to beat even as a Democrat. His immigration bill has won him the accolades of even some of the more conservative groups , even that of the Human Events publication and organization.

He has not voted too many times on issues that would really tick off the conservative base of the democrat party nor the centrist republican group who along with independents got him elected this past election. He has walked a very tight rope and it will get tighter as the farleft demands the entire democrat congress swing to their agenda or risk being put on the "do not elect list".
Truthfully I don't see Shuler swinging in that direction. He is smart enough to know on which side his bread is buttered. If anything see him swing more to the right of center especially in time for his bid for reelection.

I frankly have been somewhat surprised by some of his votes and actions since his election.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving Day Dennis.

It is too bad the report did not include information on how people might attend the event.

Maybe those who have the intelligence to understand what the windbags are saying?... and how they are different from the other 'party'.(there aint much difference!)

"Saying" is NOT the problem. NOT DOING IT is the problem. Politicians are full of it and so are the people who believe them.

I am a republican who thinks Shuler is doing a great job.
I think what Charles Taylor is doing what is for the good of the country by inviting candidates to let their views be known.
Huckabee and Thompson are the best two candidates running for president in both parties it would be an awsome privledge to see and hear them if we only knew how to get tickets for the event.

Thunder Pig,

I doubt that such an elitist as Taylor would wish to enable the common rabble to attend his little reception at Castle Taylor (or wherever).

I say let's dump this disingenuous turkey for good and give Mumpower or Armor their opportunity to betray -- or not -- the working-class conservatives of WNC.

Jeff, the last dinner I remember individuals could contact Mr. Taylors office and purchase tickets. They may have information available at the Grove Park. These tickets, as tickets for any political gathering are not inexpensive regardless of who is hosting the affair. And Jeff, I have never found his annual Christmas party to be elitist in any fashion. Of course as in any gathering there are those who would drowned if they walked outside while it was raining. I found those individuals to be near-do-wells who managed to know someone who knew someone who was not attending but had tickets and they managed to sponge them from usually a family member or friend of a family member.
You really should try to attend as you might be rather surprised at how low key the affair is.

I would not worry to much about Mr. Taylor running again. You can probably look for Mr. Shueler to maintain his office for a few more terms unless he really falls of the farleft cliff which doesn't appear to be happening. Mr. Mumpower would be wise to wait until Mr. Shueler has served another term and perhaps made some serious mistakes before taking him on.

Well, I'll be sure and post the video so more people can hear what the candidates have to say...instead of the itty bitty sound bites WLOS will air.
