Full story: Lake County Record-Bee

There was a short article appearing March 11 in the Record-Bee about Mike Thompson's telephone town hall meetings.

Let me see if I understand the author correctly. He would prefer a face-to-face event that's by invitation only, over a telephone forum that ANYONE can dial into, provided they've been told about it ahead of time. Does Jaxan have a guarantee from Thompson that he is permanently on the guest list for these closed-to-the-public affairs?

T.O.- apparently from the front page of today's RB if you are a bass you can get a face to face with our Congressman. The last time he showed up in person and allowed for 3 questions by the time he left he was quite red-faced. If he shows up for something other than his Ravioli Feed fundraiser I'll spit and fall back in it. And if he doesn't skip the Fundraiser there sure has heck better be more that the 6 of us protesters that were at the front gate of the Fairgrounds. Yeah, that's right Lake County Tea Partiers - protesting at the park when no politicos are present is a waste of time! Next time show up for real, peaceful, action.

Having listened in to several hours of Thompson's "telephone town halls", I can assure you they are nothing more than a Thompson informercial. All callers are screened, and only those with questions favorable to his position are allowed to speak. A total waste of time. Hopefully, a candidate that will actually represent the voters can run against him.

Would you feel better about being lied to in person over hearing it on the phone? Typical politician, they lie when their lips move no matter when, where or why.

Tea Partiers are frustrated and angry Repubs. If Sarah Palin is a gung ho T.P., and we all know hoe pleased she is at present. She's a quitter.

Mr. Hertz:

It is not the fact that you are being lied to face-to-face that is the issue here ... it is the ability to watch the politician in question fail to make eye contact, shift uncomfortably from foot to foot, and blush like a schoolgirl when he is caught lying.

Difficult to do over the phone. Which is why, I have no doubt, more and more politicians are choosing to participate in Phone Forums.

Politicians don't blush when they lie. only when they are scared.

Private:

Not sure I completely agree with you. If what you say is true, Washington would be glowing brighter than a coal furnace at the moment.

And perhaps it is; I cannot clearly make out DC from my house.
