Janet Napolitano halts funding for virtual border fence

There are 12 comments on the Christian Science Monitor story from Mar 18, 2010, titled Janet Napolitano halts funding for virtual border fence. In it, Christian Science Monitor reports that:

In May 2006, President George W. Bush touted the SBInet project as "the most technologically advanced border security initiative in American history." The proposed "virtual border fence" along the US-Mexican border was to be a string of towers that would use cameras, radar, and ground sensors to see who was coming across in real time.

Now the project, which spent $2.4 billion between 2005 and 2009, has hit so many snags that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is freezing its funding.

Janet Napolitano finally got something right. It appears that this system was not only expensive to install but would cost many times the installation cost just to keep it half a#s maintained for a few years. Seems would work on a nice sunny day with more TECH working to before and during Dog and Pony Show impress to big wigs. Seems it was totally WORTHLESS during bad weather esp thunder storms.

So for ONCE Janet Napolitano is right cutting it funding and IMO not another penny should be spent on it.

Secure the dang Mexican Border!!!!

Militarize it and put the USA ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY on it with an ACTIVE DUTY FOUR STAR GENERAL who reports only thru the MILITARY CHAIN OF COMMAND.

The Mexican Border is too long and the criminal activity, corruption is too great for it to be secured any other way.

The USA MILITARY already has the EQUIPMENT paid for by USA Tax Payers and Personnel with the knowledge to secure a Border in countries like Germany still looking for Hitler to do the job.

Heck the USA Military is probably the BEST Border Securer in the WORLD with plenty of EXPERIENCE gained from securing other countries Borders.

Time for the USA Military to SECURE the USA BORDERS!!!!!!!!!

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano was on the Bill O'Reilly program on Fox News Channel and said that that the number of illegal border crossers was considerably lower now. Bill O'Reilly asked her if that was because of increased border security or whether the recession has limited the job prospects of illegals in our country.
Janet Napolitano said it was because of increased border patrol activities. She also said that the Obama Administration has increased deportations.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement is using the Social Security database to determine if workers are legal at the bigger companies.
There is a company in Los Angeles that brags about hiring illegal immigrants:

what she did was to stop wasting $$ on a failed Bush debackle. Boeing got $B of our money and we got nothing for it.

Patrol the border with C-131 gun ships, shoot what moves. We also need to stop U.S. businesses from hiring illegals. It can be done.

FBI Director Mueller: Al-Qaida Still Wants Nuclear Bomb
Wednesday, 17 Mar 2010 06:37 PM
By: Ken Timmerman

FBI Director Robert Mueller warned Congress on Wednesday of ongoing efforts by al-Qaida to acquire weapons of mass destruction to attack the United States.

“Al-Qaida remains committed to its goal of conducting attacks inside the United States,” Mueller told a House appropriations subcommittee.“Further, al Qaeda’s continued efforts to access chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear material pose a serious threat to the United States.”

To accomplish its goals of conducting new attacks on the American homeland, Mueller said that al-Qaida “seeks to infiltrate overseas operatives who have no known nexus to terrorism into the United States using both legal and illegal methods of entry.”

In February, Sheikh Abdullah al-Nasifi, a known al-Qaida recruiter in Kuwait, boasted on al Jazeera television that Mexico’s border with the United States was the ideal infiltration point for terrorists seeking to attack America.

“Four pounds of anthrax – in a suitcase this big – carried by a fighter through tunnels from Mexico into the U.S., are guaranteed to kill 330,000 Americans within a single hour if it is properly spread in population centers there,” al-Nasifi said.

"There is no need for airplanes, conspiracies, timings and so on. One person, with the courage to carry four pounds of anthrax, will go to the White House lawn, and will spread this 'confetti' all over them, and then will do these cries of joy. It will turn into a real 'celebration,' al-Nasifi said. "9/11 will be small change in comparison. Am I right?"

[EXCERPT:]

Mexican commentator Pedro Echeverria ( aporrea.org , February 26, 2010) says the US is bracing for a step-by-step establishment of police and military control over Mexico. The border zone will be militarized at the initial phase of the process, and then US bases will start to proliferate across Mexico under the pretext of assisting the friendly country in the fight against drug cartels, left extremists, and various terrorist groups. The Pentagon, the CIA, and other US intelligence agencies have for years been studying the territory where the activity might unfold. They have an array of scenarios which are adjusted on a regular basis and await implementation.

Echeverria deems it possible that Mexico can come under full military occupation in case Washington concludes that a serious threat to the US national security is emanating from its territory.(Continued:)

Anybody have any thoughts or comments about this article? Is this a run up to a North American Union? While I'm aware that this is only commentary and opinion, I find it interesting.
