Casperson wins GOP nomination to challenge Stupak

State Representative Tom Casperson of Escanaba has won the Republican nomination to challenge Congressman Bart Stupak in a district that covers Michigan 's Upper Peninsula and parts of northern Michigan.

Tapped is right - recruited by the GOP leadership and not the people. The race here in Michigan's first was not representative of the free and open race even before the beginning. Both Hooper and Goldthorpe were kept at a distance from the party base through Rule 11 - yet they still collectively got over 50% of the vote (that's Hooper, a man who's ran for his fourth time and Goldthorpe, a first-time candidate who's a home school Mom and part-time pro bono attorney - both of whom probably raised less than $5K each. Casperson, in my opinion, had a lack-luster showing, with 100% of the dwindling GOP leadership and resources behind him and over $70K in fundraising (to Bart's $1M). Casperson (as much of the Republican party, except Ron Paul) will be creamed in November - you can watch much of Hooper and Goldthorpe's vote going to the Libertarian candidate. 88,794 votes cast - Casperson gets less than 18,000 of that total. Keep in mind that most all the Democrats on the ballot were running unchallenged, which means that this primary was more symbolic for them, then necessary. The war-mongering, over-spending, power-abusing GOP is DOA. Please send flowers.
