Dumb, dumb, just one problem; no human could ever survive such a long space flight to Mars or some asteroid and back. What you have here is just another massive waste of money.

WOW talk about the regression of the right in this country. Do all any of you care about is how many guns you have and how much bullying you can do?

It is a goal. You know those things that people strive for in achieving success? It is this exact type of close minded "keep everything the way I want it" thinking that keeps our country from progressing. It is you righties that refuse to accept any change that is holding this country back.

So you are cool with us having a dictatorship as long as you get to pick the "president?" You people ought to spend more time on your own education than making pathetic stabs at the sitting president.

Take a count and not allow those who differ in opinion from you to vote? You can't scream you want your country back at the same time as wanting those that you don't agree with to lose their freedom to vote.

Great headline: "Obama announces a plan to set foot on an asteroid, Mars"

So if that's true, I wholly support Obama setting foot on some asteroid, or Mars, his choice! The sooner the better.

NASA through both offering advertising space on its rockets and charging huge fares to millionaire private citizens into space, could begin to fund a lot of their own endeavors.

I laugh at the President stating we are to go to Mars when that was already on the table under Bush.

It's a nice notion, but not very economically sound.

There's little utility in sending a skeleton crew to kick a few rocks over; the only reason to go is to live there, and that can't be done until Mars is terraformed (which will take around two thousand [2,000] years minimum). This is best accomplished using a complex series of von Neumann probes that'll gradually introduce artificial atmosphere through mechanical replication.

Touching down on an asteroid is a tad easier, but, again, doesn't mean much; an asteroid should be mined for its mineral content, so it's best to rocket it back into Earth orbit and gradually strip it out.

Either way, we're still talking decades that'll spiral into the hundreds of trillions of dollars. It'll have to be done sooner rather than later, so start borrowing!

How about cutting all foreign aid to a corrupt mexican government. Then use the money to play around in space.

Would be nice to test the tech close to home, knowing we could make it to the moon and back in one piece...
