Letters to the editor: Makes no sense

Full story: Pasadena Star-News

Yes, I understand that Reggie Bush's decision to give up his Heisman Trophy was because he broke the rules of college football and recruitment.

Great letters short , concise and to the point, I especially enjoyed the slice of wry today on page 2, very apropos to the Bush and OJ situation. It is a must read if you get the paper.

Ray Sherman, you're dead on. I wish, though, that most readers here could actually grasp the concept you're explaining. I doubt they can, which is sad.

Sad indeed...since you don't get it, either. Death by itself is not a negative value. Ray's definition would equate the ocean as evil because of riptides. Heck, growing old by his definition would be considered evil.

Evil is malicious; it seeks to cause harm. And an unfortunate consequence of that harm might be death.

Ummmm... ya, I'd say death IS the ultimate negative, and to be avoided where possible. If you're thinking of an afterlife as being better, fine, you're entitled to believe that, but while we're on earth our most positive goal is to do that which enables us to survive and at the same time does not bring harm to others.

You speak of evil as a separate entity (the devil?). Evil simply characterizes the actions of HUMANS who act to harm other humans. Don't overthink it.

If you make or agree to a blanket statement that can be picked apart for being incorrect, then I get to point out where you're wrong.
