They get away with this thanks to a strong UNION !

Florida legislatures should all be ashamed of themselves for allowing sex abuse to go on so long in our schools. We need laws put in place to protect children and sex offenders need to be punished for their crimes.

the reason most teachers are not punished for any sexual crime is becuz the school board doesnt want any embarrassment. also, whose word will they beleive, a trust worthy teacher who is a friend to the school. or a student who is just out to cause trouble or wants to rid of a mean teacher? me saying this sarcasticly. I had problems like this in my school, the student tells the councler or principle. they talk to that teacher. he denyies it. then the school kindly tells the student that there must be a misunderstanding. really, wtf. What happend to trust and safety in the schools? tsk tsk.

You guessed it. The teachers union is a large voting block. |

In the meantime, what a brave stance the Sentinel is adopting.
Perhaps next they'll come out against wanton murder. |

I am all for punishing and labeling abusive teachers. But I know MANY teachers who teach in fear of the many high school students, who, wise beyond their years, know they can devistate a teachers career with one false claim. The classroom is NOT at all like it was years ago. MOST of these kids are having sex on a regular basis, and MANY aren't afraid to use it as a weapon if they don't get the grade, etc. that that want.

Maybe the parents of students who "complain" of this or that should be held responsible for something, like being a parent and not using the schools as a baby sitting service.

Agreed. Both should be addressed. |

There are instances when the child falsely accuses teachers also. Those are the ones that you don't see covered in the paper.

Are you kidding? Florida's teachers' unions have ABSOLUTELY NO POWER WHATSOEVER. They are a joke. You obviously live in another state with completely different laws. |

I have seen THREE CASES THIS SCHOOL year at my school where teachers were 100% falsely accused. THANK GOD other students came forward to defend two of the teachers, and the third teacher had to basically "come out of the closet" to help defend himself. Teachers are way more likely to be falsely accused by students than to actually be guilty. That is not saying that there are not guilty teachers, whom should be punished to the full extent of the law. That is just disgusting and horrific. But teachers, including myself, are leaving the profession in DROVES partly because of how students and crazy parents completely run the school and can get away with making false allegations. Teachers have no recourse, except to hire an attorney to defend themselves. And the schools REALLY FROWN UPON THAT. You could lose your job just for standing up for yourself. And the UNION IS USELESS. They didn't really help ANY of the three falsely accused member teachers this year. What a joke.

Punishing students because they don't sit still as statues is also abuse.

Geez... I go to work every day and I am protected from a "hostile work environment"... shouldn't kids have the same rights in school? This one is a no-brainer.

And any student caught falsely accusing a teacher should be held accountable as well.... I don't mean to imply blame on way or the other, but I don't care if the kid is 14 or 16 or 18 and/or if it's consensual.... teachers and students having relations DON'T mix!!

Teachers leaving schools in droves? Darn right - I did. Best move of my life. Teaching today is like being put in a hot box that every year gets smaller and smaller, while you are asked to dance faster and faster, without making one mistake. It is insanity. When I finally realized that (after paying 10 thousand dollars for a masterīs degree), I left.

What happened to spelling and grammar where you allegedly went to school? Did you happen to glance over at least at the mess you wrote before you submitted it? Please tell me you aren't a proud graduate of Orange County schools ? This isn't Twitter, Facebook, or text messaging. |
