Human Rights Campaign Finally Enters Target And Best Buy Donations Fray

There are 14 comments on the lezgetreal.com story from Jul 30, 2010, titled Human Rights Campaign Finally Enters Target And Best Buy Donations Fray. In it, lezgetreal.com reports that:

Coming into the fray a little late, the Human Rights Campaign has issued a letter condemning the recent decisions by Target and Best Buy to donate to MN Forward. While the Minnesota PAC claims to be non-partisan, they are run by a former aid of Tim Pawlenty, the current Republican Governor of the state, and they are only supporting one gubernatorial nominee, one Tom Emmer, who is vehemently opposed to LGBT Rights. Target has maintained that they are only willing to donate to those who will help them raise their profits, in this case Emmer has promised to cut taxes, but in so doing, they have angered one of the most lucrative demographics in the nation- the LGBT Community.

Although there is a Target store near me, I have very seldom patronized them. And although I have purchased electronics from Best Buy, I shall henceforth refrain from doin so.

(I always liked P.C. Richard better anyway, and they're across the street from Best Buy.)

I'm just so disappointed because I really did like Target. I enjoy how their products include 2 languages on the labels, neither of which are Spanish. It's right around the corner from Wal-Mart and I always saw it as a safer alternative to the same kind of store. Hopefully they see the error of their ways and make it right.

If you lived in the midwest where you don't have choices of shopping I could understand. But if you can shop at a PC Richard & Son you should. By bypassing Best Buy and going to PC Richard and Son or J & R you are supporting a local company. Supporting your local shops can be one of the best ways of actually making a difference. It is much easier to influence local smaller companies then the large ones who only care about profit and one or ten customers are unimportant. If only by the owner seeing who is buying their products. Target is in it for the money. Trying to get a tax break. Shoppers are only a number to them. It will take a major group to get them to step back and then donate to some group to try to make LGBTQIA to think of shopping there or another flashy add campaign. Sad but true. Will they stop giving to right winged crazies. Not if it can get them a tax break.

HRC to the rescue or are they looking for a donation to make us think we can shop at Target and Best Buy now. Hello HRC, it is old news. Maybe they shop for a few things before they issued their letter of condemning their actions.

Why would the liberals make this a campaign issue when everyone knows the vast majority of Minnesotans do not support gay marriage? That is why they do NOT want this to be on the ballot.

Congratulations governor Emmers!

Thank you for not raising our taxes and for cutting spending.

It's no wonder this country is in such a state. Too many stupid people. CLUE: Chicago, Illinios is in Illinios NOT Minnesota. CLUE: Emmer is NOT the governor of Illinios and could NOT do anything about your taxes or state budget. Do you have any idea at all who IS the governor of your state? Now, before you claim that your ips is Chicago but you really live in Minnesota, CLUE: Emmer is NOT the governor of Minnesota either. Do you have any idea who IS the governor of Minnesota. HINT: it's in the article and, IF you read it very very very slowly, you MIGHT get a clue. Another CLUE: Emmer is NOT the governor of any state. AND, the final CLUE that you are CLUELESS: There is no "S" on the end. It's Emmer NOT Emmers.

Meanwhile gay.com is advertising Timberlake's new line available only at Target. Why do we support such corporate crap? Why is gay.com even doing this? PROFIT over community, that's why!

I just called Targets corporate phone number and they have a prompt right away about emailing your concerns regarding the political donation. It directs you to email [email protected]

I just sent them my message starting with a message from Targets CEO that reads:

"Fostering an Inclusive Culture

At Target, diversity is much more than a goal or campaign. It’s a core value we integrate into every area of our business — from our suppliers, to our teams, to the shopping experience in our stores. We foster an inclusive culture that allows our high-performing and diverse team to drive innovation.

Gregg Steinhafel
Chairman, President and CEO, Target "

I let them know just how hypocritical I thought that sounded and of course that my family will never set foot in Target ever again.

I don't usually shop at Target, but I went out of my way to go there today and spent some money. I'll be sure to let them know why. Thanks for the email address.

Hey you gap toothed, lying hillbilly, they don't sell meth cooking ingredients at Target anymore.

This candidate sounds like a classic talibangelical retardate, but Target, like the entire Fortune 500 except for Exxon Mobil, is entirely pro g/l in its personnel policies.

There's really just about no where you can shop nationally and support homophobia anymore. You better start learning to make your own clothes and food from bark if you don't want to inadvertently support equality through your shopping, Cletus. Praiz!

I haven't been to Best Buy in weeks, and Target in years.

Tomorrow, I'm spending my whole paycheck at both stores. Way to go, Best Buy and Target!

Dumb flunkie. I'd give you a map to look at, but you're probably too busy sniffing your sister's panties to get around to it.
