Deeds Memo Damning In Hindsight

Nov 7, 2009 Full story: www.politico.com 58

Back in June, pollster David Petts was the man with the answers. His candidate, Virginia Democrat Creigh Deeds, had just won a thumping, come-from-behind primary victory to win his party's nomination for governor.

The advice: Go negative on the Republican nominee, capitalize on his natural advantage with independents, and be wary of two fellow Democrats—incumbentGov. Tim Kaine and President Barack Obama.

The Democrat’s 17-point loss to Republican Bob McDonnell was the worst blow-out in a gubernatorial election in nearly a half-century.

My neighbor went to the Dr.'s office a couple of days ago, was in and out in about 20 minutes, all in all he spoke with a nurse and a Dr. total, about 4-5 minutes. His bill came out to $487.00! I went to the emergency room last year, same thing, in and out in about 15 minutes. That bill came out to over $900.00! This is the f-ed up system you clowns want to preserve. Idiots like you are just polluting the debate with the outragious lies and distortions, and in the end, we are going to get such a watered down bill that it will never fulfill the original objective of what health care reform was supposed to be. You f-ing morons are just shooting yourselves and all others in the foot by defending the obsene profits by the insurance company. They are the ones who are standing in between you and health care.

What is an obscene profit? It is quite evident you NEVER took a course in business in your high school studies. Start and run a business, then come back and tell the group, what an obscene profit is?

You expect it to be free? Do you realize that what you are talking about is not addressed in this bill? The HR 3200 only addresses control over the system not regulating prices? And this bill will create long waits for services your ER visit would happen a week after you want to go and your doctor's appointment may take 6 months to get you in. How does that sound to you?

How does that sound to me? It sounds like you bought into the insurance company propaganda. And no, I dont expect free health care. Why do you clowns only believe the negitive stories manufactured by the insurance lobby? repuglatards didnt want things to change when Clinton tried, when Bush had a majority of the congresses for 6 years, they didnt do anything except try to privatize Social security and medicare. And a multi BILLION dollar give away to the big pharm with the aids in Africa and all the confusing drug plans. I guess people are blinded by the false rhetoric coming from the far right, and they seem to want to tear this country with all the hate and lies that are enraging the easily led. All I know, no matter how bad and weak the Democrats are in defending against the the outragious lies about the health care overhaul, they will never compare to the outright evil repuglatard party.

What is obscene is the number of "ILLEGAL ALIENS" that flood our emergency rooms making them their place of choice for office visits. Throw in the cost of taxpayers to pay for the birth of "ANCHOR BABIES" and you have a prime example of why health care costs so much.

Defending the big and evil insurance company profits? Wow, you are a true patriot! We should let them charge what they want, lower their taxes so they can keep more of the money they get for denying claims to people with illnesses! And will all this money they are making somehow trickle down to us poor slobs in middle class? I know, there are other companies that have a greater profit margins than the insurance industries , so in your twisted logic they dont make obscene enough profits.

I don't think that was his point. He simply stated that, as an industry, insurance companies really don't make a high margin on their product. What that means is that the VAST majority of the money spent does not end up in shareholder's hands. Shareholders that I might add, you COULD be one of.

Now if you want to talk about the negatives of the big insurance companies, talk about their size and inefficiencies. Unfortunately, those arguments hold against anything that the feds would attempt as well.

Profit really isn't a dirty word. Why aren't you down at your local pizza shop complaining to the owner about the huge margins he is charging you.

Apparantly, if I have a lemonade stand and it costs me .05 to make a glass, Eugene would get mad if I sold it to you for .051 (2% profit)

An old man that used to work for me, said when he worked a job, from which he retired after 45 years, another employee sold a cow to a third. Later, the third sold the cow and made a profit. Even though the the third paid the second exactly what he asked for the cow, the second got so mad the he had made a profit, he wouldn't speak to him again.
How does one feed and provide shelter for his family without profit. Unless you work for the government of an true nonprofit organization, we all survive on profit either from selling goods or services.

Eugene,
There is nothing in any of these bills that is going to make your health care cost less. There is nothing in these bills that is going to make the time you wait for a doctor less. There is nothing in these bills that will cause the doctor to spend more time with you. There is nothing in these bills that will raise the quality of the care that you receive. There is nothing in these bills that will caues illegal aliens to have to return to their country for treatment or to be treated after the legal residents and citizen of this country. There is nothing that is going to cause those same illegal persons to not be covered. The only thing this bill will do is cause many people who have good coverage now to have to accept an inferior coverage and/or be taxed over their so called "cadillac" plan which in many cases was something that they negotiated as part of their agreement to accept certain employment.
So, Eugene, it appears you are unhappy and all you want is for everybody else in the country to be just as unhappy as you are.

Several years ago, George, an experienced engineer retired early from his maintence engineering job at a large and, dare I say it, profitable factory. About 8 months later one of the most important machines in the factory stopped working. The factory begin loosing $500,000 a day in production while the engineers and workers tried to repair the machine. The factory manager asked them why they could not fix the machine. "George always helped us fix it before. He tried to explain what was wrong, but we knew he would be there, so we didn't pay close enough attention." "Well then," said the manager, "call George". George came in and talked with the workers and engineers. Then he walk around the machine, now and then asking a few more questions. Then he opened his toolbox and took out a large hammer. He then wacked the machine and said, "Try it now." The machine worked and production resumed. A few days later, George's bill for $20,000 was presented to the factory manager, as production continued. He was outraged and called George and demanded an itemized bill. When the bill arrived it said, "One hammer blow:$10.00. Knowing where to apply the hammer blow:$19,990.00."

Thats a cute little piece of fiction. Whats the point of it? Insurance companies can charge all they want, deny coverage to policy holders when they get sick. And their entitled to make their profits and answer only to their shareholders? What ever dude. You guys are worried about the shareholders profits, the ceo's bloated pay and golden parrachute, and Democrats are worried about going bancrupt if someone in the family gets a catistrophic illness, and democrats want to have affordable healthcare for all and republicans dont. After you cut through all the republican bs, thats what it boils down to. Not socialism, merxism or communism, but never any national health plan that covers everybody. Masn, do I hope you fools lose big time in 2010. Its emotionally draining argueing with the morally bancrupt and corrupt repuglatards.
