Theocracy is alive and well in Georgia.
Refusing to let the people decide on Sunday alcohol sales contradicts the very philosophy of our nation.
Republican Caucus confidentiality agreement? Shades of the old back-room “good ol’ boy politics” we lived under for so long! My state senator, Butch Miller, refused to discuss the meeting. Practicing “secrecy in government” may cost him my vote in the future.
The Sunday alcohol prohibition causes more intoxicated people to be on the roads. Instead of taking booze home to drink, some people will get loaded in bars and then drive. Sunday prohibition is not a safety issue- it is an issue of a religious minority exercising their will over the rest of us. I’m NOT trying to bash Christians here, but some of their leaders are dangerous narrow-minded theocrats.
Our state needs new industries and the jobs they bring. Georgia already has a reputation of being backwards and intolerant. The Sunday prohibition just adds to this somewhat deserved reputation. No one will ever know how many companies will locate in less backwards, more open minded, more sophisticated 21st century states. Like Mississippi, Alabama, or South Carolina. This doesn’t matter to the “Georgia Taliban” though. Their top priority is to control our lives to the greatest extent possible.
