Are Republicans Attacking Capitalism?

Politics Staff Story

Now that Romney is the clear front-runner, the non-Romneys have been busy laying in to his business career.

On Tuesday, Gingrich’s supporters released an attack ad calling Romney a “predatory corporate raider.” And Rick Perry slammed Romney's former company, Bain Capital:

They're vultures that are sitting out there on the tree limb, waiting for a company to get sick. And then they swoop in, they eat the carcass, they leave with that and they leave the skeleton.

Other Republicans and news sources have pointed out that their criticisms smack of class warfare. Rick Santorum says the attacks on Romney are attacks on capitalism, and Buzzfeed Politics ran a story on “Rick Perry, Communist.”

Today, Politico reports, Gingrich apologized for “going too far.” ABC news reports that Rick Perry has dropped the “vulture capitalism” line from his stump speeches.

Your take: Are the attacks fair? Or are Perry and Gingrich slamming legitimate capitalism?

Yes, they are. Newton Leroy is an angry man, and he's willing to become a suicide bomber against Romney, regardless if it blows up repub concepts.

In the meantime, he's forcing repubs to defend corporate raiding, which no middle-class worker likes.

Don't get me wrong. I don't have an issue with Mitt making his money in whatever legal manner he could.

Corporate raiding has been around since the '80s. I used to follow Micheal Milken's activities all the time (read Enemies at the Gate). Its not a well liked activity, but it's legal

But I love seeing Angry Newt sound like an OccupyWallStreet leader.

Stay in the race Newton Leroy, please!?!

I am delighted Newtie and Little Ricky Perry are doing a credibility jog of outlining the he OWS talking about about the evils of unrestrained capitalism, bust out artists, and Wall Street greed.

Even the GoP's chief propagandist is advising them not to be seen as defending capitalism!

GOP Strategist Frank Luntz:‘Conservatives Should Not Be Defending Capitalism’...Suddenly, they’re trying to defend something that has only 18 percent support."

I guess Luntz wants the public to believe that Republicans are both the defenders and the opponents of 'capitalism.'

GOP is NOT attacking capitalism.

The GOP losers are attacking the one in the lead (by using the campaign contributions they collected FROM capitalists). <LOL>

Capitalism is alive and well WITHIN the 'political' process.

people majority of these repubs are mentally out of their minds.
The only normal candidate is Ron Paul there, he is really wiser than the rest, he has programm, he knows what to do to save his country, he is peaceful. And he as president would be really the best president from years or centuries.

Republicans For Sale
Super Pacs have already bought and paid for the republican want to be presidents. They are just another special interest corporate owned politician that wants more special interests corporate run country. Republicans represent and are the party of the elite rich, big corporations, and a big wasteful military. Republican party of corporate welfare.

This is the new catch phase, "Suicide Bomber"? How about Newt just exposed the truth on Bain and Romney's business practices. It was Romney who said he was proud of his work "Creating" Jobs at Staples through his activities at Bain.

Seems the establishement wants to quiet Newt and Perry from telling the facts exactly as they exist surrounding Romney's activities at Bain and the damage down to unsuspecting hard working Americans in the Middle Class who were eventually displaced by business activities at Bain.

Although those activities were not illegal, they had the effect of driving a knife through the hearts of typical hard working Americas, as Bain profited Millions.

Snatching pensions and bankrupting companies in pursuit of profit leaving the carcass of unemployed bread winners is a foggy picture for a politician running for the highest office in the land.

How is he able to bring jobs back to America after profiting so handsomely from exporting those jobs a few years earlier?

None of those antics are on the resume of Ron Paul.

Your typical American Right Winger is an obese, gullible imbecile. They are venomous people with the same ethics as their corporate overlords with whom they actively collaborate. Their bigotry is easily manipulated by corporate media. They don’t give two shyts about their own lives being thrown in the gutter as long as they get their chance to step on somebody even farther below them. They uphold sadistic beauty standards, even though they collectively are the most physically repulsive people on earth. They hate themselves for being ugly, stupid, shallow failures, but embrace religious fundamentalism to externalize that hatred onto everybody else. They are cowards who listen to right-wing radio so they can vicariously bully all the people they are too chickenshyt to confront in person. It is a nation of Sarah Palins. So fck them. They can take their patriotism and shove it up their huge asses.

I hate to say this, but you are right. You just described the Fox followers and the tea party nuts. That is EXACTLY what they are like, and I talk about it all the time, how they are third world people, fat, lazy, stupid and mean as hell. You got it right. The thing is this country is going third world so unless you have money to live around the civilized one percent or money to move elsewhere, you are in trouble, stuck with the dumbed down cruel insane masses. It's exactly like that were I live. They are ALL literally insane, mental cases, all fat, but then the fat ugly men all stare and stare at me. The women hate themselves, and all they all care about is harming anyone they think is not as full of self-hate as they are. Boy did you get this right. And it is a big, huge deal because where our society is, what our civilization is like, that says everything about the country's culture and it shows the country will probably go under, go third world.

can you document some of the accusations against Romney? I suspect some are true, but I do not see the sources, the statistics, the proof - only the accusations.

I agree. The Establishment types want to pay the predators subsidies, and give them tax breaks. The libertarian types wnat to turn the predators loose, with no protection for the prey. The result would be the same either way - big government controlled by the rich, or made ineffectual by the flunkies of the rich - same result. There are news stories now about how much tax due is not collected, because of not providing enough satff people to the IRS to audit properly.
