Haslam boosts commissioners' salaries
#1 Apr 7, 2011
"Haslam acknowledged that increasing his top aides' pay could lead to criticism. But he noted that all of his agency heads have all been told to make cuts, so ultimately the state will be spending less."
Translation: "My friends and political supporters will make more, but I'm sending a bunch of the peons to the bread line, so it's all good in the end."
It doesn't matter which side of the isle you're on. It's always this same story.
But in light of recent discussions about public sector versus private sector pay, I really liked this line from Haslam:
"In government we're never going to pay what they do in the private market," he said. "But if we're going to attract great people, we're going to have to at least make it comparable."
