This city needs something else that creates a liability to the city. Really, we need to spend 100k on a park that will turn into a haven to hangout and require police, as well as emergency responders. Take alook at Franklins skate park and the number of accidents that happen on a daily basis.
Spring hill needs to worry about todays issues, not something that was proposed years ago..

ya. but i've seen the dumb skateboarder kids in my neighborhood grinding on car bumpers & all sorts of property they shouldn't be on. given, their parents probably won't waste their time to bring them to this skate part, so it's definitely a waste of money. glad this shouldn't be going to our roads or anything else important /eyeroll

Spring Hill needs somewhere for kids to skateboard. Something for kids to do period! There is NOTHING in Spring Hill. God forbid we build a skate park and try to keep kids out of trouble and away from drugs. I grew up skateboarding and it angers me how negative people are towards it. You never hear of professional skateboarders beating their wives, shooting up sterriods and generally being bad people like you do in baseball and football! Not everyone likes baseball and football! We have ball fields in Spring Hill... why not a place for skaters to play? You can get hurt playing baseball too... should we close the fields? Get a life people!

Let's worry more about the Maury County schools closing than some skate park. School will get these kids much further in life than a skate park will.

While you're at it, pave an oval for all the idiot tweener kids blasting through stop signs on those mini motorcycle things. Might as well corral them into something where they're only going to crash into each other too.

What's up with all the hatred against skateboarders? Yeah, some of them are stupid and get into drugs, crime, and such. But it has nothing to do with skateboarding. I'm a junior in high school, and I can walk down the hallways and hear just as many baseball, football, and basketball players talking about those sorts of things as skateboarders. If not more. I've heard the straight A honor roll students talking about getting drunk/high. It has nothing to do with skateboarding. Not all of us are like that. I agree with SkateR. There's not a thing to do in Spring Hill. That's why so many kids do those things. Sure, a skatepark won't get rid of the problem, but with something for kids to do, there's a chance it could atleast dicrease it a little. Like SkateR said, they'll put up money to build a Rec Center, and all these fields for the other kids, why not a skatepark? All of us don't enjoy team sports where we have to depend on others and have a coach screaming in our face. Some of us prefer more individual things. Excuse my langage, but you don't hear anyone bitching about the city building a new ball park or stadium they already have numerous of, but as soon as a single place for skaters to go gets approved, everyone raises hell. Why? What's wrong with us having the same privalages your children probably have with their team sports?

Hmmm sounds like some people just absorb rather than research....if you want to be the typical, inside the box thinker....always believing the stereotypes put out on the media, never thinking of differences in peoples taste, thought processes and likes, go ahead. But remember this....we all are made different, no two the same! Maybe I like Football, my neighbor likes Baseball....there are some who like skateboarding. Do you personally know any skateboarders, or are you that guy/girl who is in Banking, and was brought up in a more traditional sport. Why so close minded? Not an accusation...just a thought. We would all be better suited to figuring out where all of the government waste went...trivial things, stupid things...rather then a half brained attempt at snubbing something that will be positive to the community!

Just moved from nashville. It's boring here. Putting aside useless stereotypical comments about the sports, this city, or County, needs at least one skate park. I have been going to nashville from columbia whenever I feel like skating and it's just not worth it. I love my hobby and wouldn't trade it for any other. I rollerblade and haven't been convicted of a felony or anything. Most of my friends all have steady jobs and girlfriends. It would definitely change people's perception of Columbia. I'm ashamed of living out here because it's too boring. The location is perfect for building a skate park.

woah woah woah, hold up on the hatred towards skateboarders, springhill needs a skatepark, yeah some people do drugs and stuff but its not just skateboarders, they arent all just criminals, im a non biased person, i play baseball, football, and other sports but i also skateboard, im a straight A student btw, and if they do build it then those skateboarders will probably stop skating on those car bumpers and stuff like i saw in a previous comment, i think they should build it and give kids more to do, because believe it or not hobbies keep kids off of drugs

I read the comments before reading that the money funding this was a "grant". I didn't care if some wealthy citizen died and left a 100k to build a skate park, but if it's a government grant, I do care a little more about that. Regardless of whether you like skateboarders or skateboarding that's a pretty narrow demographic to drop 100k on...especially if you have to wait 5 years to get 100k. Have you been to the rec center lately? Wow, talk about overcrowded. I personally think 100k would be better served if it were applied to tennis courts, basketball courts, etc. Hey a park is fine, but how many kids skateboard compared to how many might utilize a park that had a broader appeal?
Does anyone do studies on this stuff or research??
