Why is STATE money being spent on these LOCAL street projects? State highway money should be spent only on actual STATE roads like Rt.59, Rt.53 Rt.64, Hwy.83, and other state roads. Naperville-are they serious? Naperville has plenty of money for their own street repairs!

keep buying your over taxed gas and shut up, naperville is entitled to have good roads too

Naperville is entitled to good local roads as long as Naperville PAYS for them. This "free state money" that cities and towns get comes out of money that is due retired state employees and teachers.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about Not one pensioner has not been paid in the states system....The gas tax and motor fuel tax pays for roads not just local roads.

The motor fuel tax, license plates fees, duplicate title fees, sales tax on used cars, etc., etc. were all supposed to be used ONLY for road building and repairs. Much of it was and is diverted to other things. CTA, police for the CTA, Metra, Metra police, Pace bus, funds to the State library (to give grants to politically connected local libraries), and on and on. There is not enough money left for roads and so the state makes up for the shortfall by putting in large amounts out of general funds. Then the state shorts the pension funds. This has been going on for decades and is the reason the have their 100 billion "pension problem". Local streets should be paid for with local funds, not with state funds diverted from pension funds. That extra turn lane with the fancy camera that tells the signal when to change, very nice! It was partly paid for out of a teachers or state police or highway workers pension fund. It should stop. The state needs to pay the pensions first before giving political gifts of state money to local street projects. It would also help to spend the fuel taxes on roads ONLY.
