"Business owners say the measure could make non-citizen workers reluctant to apply for jobs and make hiring new employees more expensive and cumbersome." It's just horrible I tell you.

Yes they certainly would fear it wouldn't they - due too the fact that they lust for the cheap labor and are willing to throw the costs of the government entitlement programs and freebees upon the citizenry for payment through taxation. Sweet deal eh?- if you as an employer are willing to sell your soul and lack any amount of responsibility.

Bummer for the 'poor' business owners! They have to pay a living wage to *gasp* an American! Heaven forbid their cheap, black market labor pool dry up and blow away. Gosh, I feel soo bad for these poor, underprivileged business owners, but that's what happens when you act without conscience.

There will be no admiration for these business owners because we should only be paying citizens and/or documented workers stated within our Government laws. But be careful what you wish for. The United States is a free enterpise country so your wishes may actually equate to these same business owners going overseas for their production of their goods for sale. This also means the families that are producing, cultivating, etc the product here in the United States would not be that putting money back into the communities they are residing in (food, clothing, etc). Just a thought verbalized...

Chosen Traveler - How about these business owners stay within the rule of law. If they decide to leave the country then so be it, the rule of law states the busines owners should not hire illegal aliens - period. The business owners take advantage of the cheap labor and leave the law abiding citizens to fend for themselves in a job market depressed with the loss of the number of jobs and reduced wages. That is not even close to a level playing field for the citizens that abide within the law - we are handcuffed by those who live outside the law and receive advantage for that stance. Penalize both the illegal alien AND the business owners who participate in this illegal activity - maybe offer the same jail cell to both law breakers so they can share time together since they appear to enjoy each other's company so well!

teddyr4me - Thank you, we both respect the law and expect others to do likewise! I just viewed some of the damage and destruction in Alabama, the loss of life there is hard to imagine. Please put those folks in your prayers tonight, they certainly need it. The garden is actually startting to look like a garden - onion sets, cabbage transplants, peas (yumm) and lettuce of all types in the ground!! Tomatoes, peppers, beans, summer and winter squash in about 2-3 weeks - the soil is too cool to even try these in the ground as yet.

Chosen Traveler - Thank you, and your post was every bit as well articulated. I will freely admit I am old school when it comes to the law - obey and respect it and if the law is truely foul/vile do the best attempt to change it or throw it from the books (while staying within the law). Let me add this - the business owners who conduct their hiring in this manner are every bit as guilty as the illegal alien. The use of E-Verify is reliable (not perfect of course) in the identification of illegals plus many other methods are available to cross check with E-Verify. Can mistakes be made, yes, but not on the scale we currently witness - this is flagrent and blatent hiring of illegals with no holds barred. Since we have two guilty parties here I advocate both sharing the same cell for the same duration of time, that way they can enjoy the same food, the same latrine and the same view together. In my estimation nothing postive happens to reduce the hiring of illegals until the employer(s) get a taste of jail time AND serious fines to supplement that jail time. In other words, take away the incentives. Your thoughts?
