I work for a corporation with a major presence in Indy. A few weeks ago one of our corporate executives (from California) was in the St. Louis area visiting a potential location for a new manufacturing site.

After his visit there was done he traveled to Indianapolis for some additional meetings. He traveled back to Indy with me in my vehicle. As we passed through the Terre Haute area along I-70 he noticed the smell as soon as we crossed over the river bridge and then commented on all the high weeds, trash and graffiti along the backs of the buildings to the south and west of the I-70/US41 interchange (old racquetball club, tennis bubble, spa place, etc...).

It was really trashy looking and didn't give off much of a positive first impression. His final comment was very telling. He simply said, "you know, we considered Terre Haute years ago for a location, but the city was just plain dirty. Doesn't look like things have changed."

Now, that's just one guy's perception, but he is a pretty powerful guy that could, if he wanted, steer business and some good paying jobs to our area. First impressions are everything and the one he got didn't do us any good at all.

We're ruining our future by not presenting a better image.
Do you think that our image might be bolstered by having an articulate guy like Fred Nation in the mayor's office? Check out these interviews with each of the three candidates running in tomorrow's primary before you cast your vote:
