Has anyone in this state who actually wants to see it in action ever lived in a right to work for less state? I have . I was raised & lived in one for 30 years. I am here to tell you that it is not the pretty little package that they sold to the ignorant sheeple who keep voting them into office. The majority of the right to work states are in the Southern states. Those Southern states also boast the biggest poverty rates in our country. These private sector companies that will now come to our state to set up shop will hire you for min. wage or maybe a few quarters above it,will reap the benefits of this law. They will offer you an insurance package( and you can bet your ass it is not the one that the upper management and execs have)that isn't worth paying out of that measly take home paycheck. Retirement plan?? BWAHAHAHA!!! Those same execs expect you to start a Roth or 401k on that same tiny check that you work hard for. They company is getting the tax breaks for opening shop up here and on top of that Vectren offered them a break on the rates they pay as another incentive to open up shop here instead of somewhere else in the state because everyone knows that Vectren has the highest rates in our state. So let's see if all the sheeple are able to follow this. Hire you CHEAPLY, get tax breaks from the city, state & more than likely, from the Federal government, and get cut rate power for their biz. Where does those millions in $$ go??? I'm going to clue you in... Not in a decent wage for you ! Most of these companies will hire from a Temp Agency . That means that just about the time your "probationary period" is up , they will lay you off due to work being slow(new company, the economy, what ever they want to tell you)and then they will bring in another flock. Bull you say? Look at the companies that already do it, Ameriqueal , Sabic, T.J. Maxx, Shoe Carnival,etc.,etc.
I am a Union Laborer & DAMN PROUD OF IT !! I was brought up with a strong work ethic. I am a good, hard worker. Yes the Union has its flaws but what makes that so different from the elected officials who have had their hand in the cookie jar for what seems like forever themselves. I'm here to tell you this... I got into the Union 3 yrs ago, I will be 51 in a few months, and I feel like I am finally getting paid a fair wage for the job I do.
Oh yeah, I have insurance & a pension. It won't be worth what those crooks in Indy will receive after 10 years of service, cause lets face it, how many more years will I be able to bust my hump. I should have moved out of that shitty " Right to Work for Less" state 20 years ago. I would be able to retire in a few years on a full pension.
Now here is the icing on the cake for all you sheeple that can't seem to think for themselves & believe what these politicians tell you as if it were gospel...
While it is true that this law will allow you to work a job without having to join a union or pay dues & get the service of representation by the same collective bargaining rights that I will gladly pay for because I feel that my days sweat is worth more than $7.25 an hour... That very same law WILL NOT apply to FEDERAL & STATE GOVERNMENT & EMPLOYEES OF A POLITICAL SUBDIVISION !!!
ONCE AGAIN THE POWERS THAT BE ARE TELLING ME THAT THIS LAW IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME BUT IT IS BENEATH THEIR HIGH STATURE IN THIS CLASS WAR ON THE AMERICAN WORKER !!

I come from Washington state and it is NOT a Right to Work state. Public Sector Unions have bought up every politican in the country. Constant barage on the voters of new taxes, and more taxes. People out here in Washington are about ready to revolt. Do the right thing and save your state Indiana. You do not want them to get a grip on you because everybody but the Unions suffer. Damn near impossible to get them out once they get in. Kind of like cockroaches.

Unions in the Public Sector are a clear-cut and blindingly obvious case of conflict of interest. The goverment is supposed to provide services to the people in a cost-effective way, providing what's necessary while extracting the least possible amount of money out of taxpayers. The goal of a union is precisely the opposite: to extract as much money as possible out of the organization that it feeds on. In the private sector Unions actually do work to some extent, because there is a built in check on the union's power; namely that the business of industry in question will go bankrupt when the union gets too greedy. Just look at GM, and Chrysler. Yes, they were saved, Thanks to Obama and MY TAX DOLLAR.

In the Public Sector, the organization that the union is feeding on is the goverment itself--funded by the taxpayers, the very people whose money they're supposed to be spending frugally.

Oh yeah, when the Unions and the state sit down for negoiations they are SECRET NEGOTIATIONS and I mean Secret. Public is not allowed, and the media is not allowed. Just the two of them all nice and cozy with the tax payers money. These meetings are not even subject to the Freedom of Information Act. So it goes along for several years and all of a sudden everyone in the state is wondering where all the money went. Look in the Public Sectors pockets with over inflated salarys, bloted benefits and Unfunded Pension Plans. Keep them in Check Indiana. Don't be stupid like the people that live in Washington State.

If you listen to the likes of MaryBug up above he neglected to tell you about his Union and the mediocracy it has in it. Go on a constructiion site that is Union and than go on one that is non- Union and you will soon see what the term MEDIOCRACY really means. He may think he works hard but I know better after puting 48 years in construction. Yup, I was in the carpenters union for seven of those years. If you are proud of what you do and you are good at it you will always have a job in the private sector and you will probably make more money, unless you like MEDIOCRACY.

He is a she! When working a man's job a woman has to work twice as hard to keep that job or be the first to get laid off. Why hasnt anyone tried to answer the question as to why this bill EXCLUDES the very people that are trying to push it through, or the state employees? Are you trying to tell me that this law is good enough for me but not for the man at the BMV office or the lady down at the unemployment office?

I have no problem with jacking up the state employees also.

Sorry about the gender gaff. If you ever decide to work as a labor in the private sector be prepared to work three times harder than everyone else but keep in mind if you do you will probably be rewarded handsomly.

If you would like more info on the damage that Public Sector Unions cause, put on your thinking cap and look up states union shares. You will find that every state that is struggling with finances has a very high union share. We here in Washington are at 59% California 58% New York is like 70 something % and no one can afford to live there as we all know.

My advice is to be a "Right To Work State" enjoy your Union job and be thankful if it goes thru.

Unions will not go away in this state. Indiana was a RTW state once before being repealed in the 1960's. I can see it being repealed again with a Democratic majority house. Yes there are some bad apples in the unions. As for being lazy , once again , you have the few that makes a bad impression on all. For the most part.. I work my ass off & earn my pay. You stand in the middle of the road with a stop sign in your hand and have a garbage truck bear down on you & lock up their brakes, lay down 173'(we measured) of skid marks, al the while talking on his phone, and see if you would want to do it for min. wage !
What is your line of work?
The only ones who are ignorant are the ones who are buying into the politicians BS that RTW will benefit Hoosiers. The ones it will benefit are the ones who pushed this bill through, financially there is a gain in it somewhere.
Wake up people, it's the crooked, greedy politicians, bankers & CEO's that got us where we are today..... And you still want to eat the shit they are feeding you? Now who is ignorant?
Why don't you spend a little ad your web time educating yourself.... Research how many State Reps., Senators & Governors are MULTI millionaires ! What you thought they got into politics to help us? BWAAAHAHAHA!
Here is another HHHMMMM ! Moment for you..... Everyone wants to run down the unions but want about these rich farmers who are paid MILLIONS IN POSEY COUNTY ALONE for NOT planting crops??!! I don't hear any of you good ol' boys talking smack about that !
I know your type.... Not quite intelligent enough to think for yourself...changing your beliefs just to be on the winning side....and doomed to repeating someone else's views because when all is said and done you really have nothing original to offer to the discussion!!
NOW WHO IS IGNORANT !

If Indiana goes Right To Work for the 2nd time last time was in 1957 and repealed in 1965, that just means the Unions will have to work extra hard to get people to pay union dues and show that its benefical to join the union instead of the union caving into the company and just getting a contract signed & passed by the members just so National union has income flowing in to their bank accounts anymore their just ran & operate like big business. then friday automotive news reported that Volkswagen was behind the push to have Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels make Indiana a Right To Work state.

Many people forget that Indiana enacted a right-to-work law in 1957 when the Republicans controlled the legislature. The law remained in effect until the Democrats repealed it in 1965 when they controlled the legislature and the governor's office. According to the "Centennial History of the Indiana General Assembly, " then-House Speaker George Deiner (R-Indianapolis) considered passage of right-to-work legislation as his greatest accomplishment during the four years he served as speaker. The legislation passed the House 54-42 first and later in the Senate by a 27-23 vote after Lt. Governor Crawford Parker bypassed the Senate Labor Committee where the bill was locked up and brought it to the Senate floor for a vote. "The act was one of the most controversial of the 1950s and was bitterly opposed by organized labor because, in forbidding employers in Indiana to base hiring upon membership or non-membership in a labor union, it outlawed the 'closed shop."
