Does South Carolina Hold Another, More Shocking Sex Scandal Than That of Gov. Sanford?

Full story: lezgetreal.com

So far South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has refused to leave office. Recently his lieutenant governor one Andre Bauer has demanded Sanford resign, but to no avail. The question of course is why. Why has not Gov. Sanford resigned in the face of a burgeoning and difficult sex scandal? Part of it might have to do with rumors that are surrounding Lieut. Gov. Bauer. Now those rumors are coming from more and more reliable sources. According to these rumors Lieut. Gov. Bauer is a closet homosexual. These rumors have been circulating in South Carolina for some time now, but they are beginning to gain more national traction largely due to the stubbornness of Gov. Sanford regarding his resignation.

So, if he comes out of the closet, wouldn't that make his past "indiscretions" merely "dates"? Unless, of course, he has spoken out against gays. Just speaking for "family values" does not mean he is against gays. We have family values, too, you know. And if he is a hypocrit, then let the fun begin. Maybe they could work their way down the sucession list to the janitor before they found someone who could truly be worthy of the office.

I think it's considered a scandal because he's been an outspoken homophobe.

Oh, give it a rest, Will. The moral standard to which republicans are being held is the very one they themselves created and have been using as a moral yardstick for everyone else. Hoist on their own petard, it seems.

Eh, I *endlessly* get stony silence or, in some cases, flak for saying this, and it's not about to stop me from saying it again.

While that type of hypocrisy is ridiculous, I lay the *primary, large, appreciable chunk* of blame at the doorstep of society GENERALLY, with its endless, hysterically anti-gay attitudes.

If his hypocrisy were blood, the *majority* of that blood is smeared all over the hands and faces of society in general,*especially* stained irrevocably into the flesh of anti-gay contingents.

I'm less apt to blame him than them, purely because so many people operate from such a base of jaw-dropping stupidity on these matters, and I feel it's a really, really vitally important duty to call those people out on stupidity first and foremost -- as endlessly and continually as they engage in said stupidity.

The American people want authenticity in their leaders. A rare commodity in today's society.

So society is to blame for Ted Haggart, Mark Foley, Larry Craig, McGreevey? NOT

Politicians are held to THEIR OWN standards. If Palin weren't so strongly in favor of abstinence only classes, it wouldn't be an issue that her teenage daughter got knocked up. If Larry Craig weren't so anti-gay, it wouldn't matter that he's gay, although the closetcase bathroom thing was just sad. And the Sandford affair is a big deal because he's all about the traditional marriage and how important it is. It's not morals, it's hypocrisy. Barney Frank is out and proud, so it's a non-issue. Bill Clinton, while caught in a web of lies and adultery, had never climbed up on a soapbox about it all. And very few people applaud Clinton's actions with Monica; they just separate this private life from his professional life.

And no, I don't respond with any misguided hope that Wil will actually learn anything. I respond so others who read his post will be educated.

I know! I read that and thought: why is being homosexual still a "scandal"? Ridiculous.
