I think that is an excellent idea!!! Let the two of them see how well their chosen execution works.
I also think capital punishment is not working and should be removed from sentencing. It costs more to house people on death row, and it costs so much in legal appeals and is years before the sentence can be carried out.
It might be better to use one of our prisons for this type of sentence and give it a different name.Instead of death sentence, maybe life in solitary. They would be confined to a cell with no visitors, no commissary, no electronics. They would be in their cell for the rest of their lives with nothing coming to them from the outside but personal mail. Nothing that would be entertaining would be sent to them. They would receive their food, laundry, some personal care items like shaving, and writing materiels, and maybe library cart once a month. There would be fewer officers since these people will never exit their cell and the number of appeals should be fixed. This punishment will give them life to think of what they did, remember their victim, and know their life style is permanent.

Let's require all legislators to view crime scene photos and autopsies of murder victims and attend their funerals..

Dennis McGuire anally raped/tortured/murdered Joy Stewart, a 22 year old newlywed who was 30 weeks pregnant.

There is no indication that McGuire was conscious at any time after the first 30 seconds of the 24 minute execution process, as pharmacological realities dictate.

There is every indication that Joy Stewart was conscious throughout the eternal horror of her savage rape and murder. McGuire forced Joy from her car, choked her, attempted to rape her vaginally, raped her anally, slashed her throat so deeply it severed both her carotid artery and jugular vein, all the while Joy realizing the horror of her own death, as well as that of her unborn child.

The baby’s name would have been Carl, his mother’s grave marker shows.

Joy's husband, Kenny, committed suicide within a year after their murders.

McGuire had more time on death row than Joy had in life.

McGuire's children have threatened to sue the state over their father's just execution. So foul. They have learned so very little.

Their only comments should have been:

"We are truly sorry for the horror and suffering that our father has caused to Joy, her husband, their unborn child and to Joy and Kenny's family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers will be with them, always."

Do folks gasp, wheeze, moan, etc. while in their sleep? Of course, which is all that happened with McGuire.

Possibly, someone in the media will look up the overdose properties of the drugs involved and tell us how McGuire could, possibly, have been conscious. He couldn't have been.

The properties of the drugs and their overdosing effects are very well known - by no means an experiment.
