While they're working on this bill, they need to authorize ODOT to look at VARIABLE speed limits.

I don't mind 55 mph on a congested freeway, but there is no excuse for a 55 mph speed limit on I-670 at 9 pm at night when there is no traffic!!!

I agree but I670 is that way because of bad design and perpetual repaving etc.
Same holds true downtown at the split. 55 is fine during the day, but at night? No reason you shouldn't be able to go 65.

Jeeze, Roberto. I drive 80+ on interstates and turnpikes. Will you have the bail money for me?

A year ago a woman cop pulled me over in MD doing 96 in a 65. I cannot believe she let me go! There wasn't any traffic.

The OHP is infamous; their welcome wagons await drivers at our state borders.
When entering OH, particularly from KY, one must immediately decelerate from 85 to 65.

They easily could have road sensors and LED speed markers that change depending on the level of traffic.

That is not in the ODOT manual and it makes sense.
another issue with parts of I670 is differential velocities due to trucks. And from what I see with this latest rebuild that will not be improved. The 7O/71 split lane ave south on 315 and 670 along eith 270/23/315 has been and always will be a Mongolian cluster phuqqqqq.
Still, the 55 mph speed limit is justifiable only a few hours a day. The rest of the time it's a speed trap, especially on I-670 going west. No reason that stretch has to be 55 at night.

Same thing with the east freeway.

Why torture people when you don't have to? That's why they lose respect for speed limits. Proper speed limits people would respect.

P.S. That's what I saw in the Netherlands ... LED speed signs on the expressway that change with the time of day. If they can do it there, no reason it can't be done here.

Now that truly makes sense. And they could change them for fog or ice or an accident ahead. And since it makes so much sense...you can bet they won't do it.

I am all for safety, but like anything else the safety nuts people have to be realistic.

70 MPH? Thought we were supposed to conserve gas usage. The faster you drive, the more gas we use. At that speed people will be going 75-80+. Can only imagine the amount of future traffic accidents, especially around the larger cities. This will also cause the speedup deterioration of the highways. Of course, this will increase the profit of the gas suppliers, auto mechanics, insurance companies and don't forget the road construction unions. Wonder which group paid the most to which politicians in Columbus?

Why are we supposed to conserve? There's no gas shortage, and it's our money to burn. Do you drive a 20 year old beater? My Camry gets 30 mpg at 70 mph. Accidents are caused by variance in speed, not speeding. You people who drive 60 when everyone else is doing 70 are a menace.
Go be a busybody somewhere else...and stay out of the left lane.

I'm with you Frugalady. Georgie, I drive 45 in the left lane because I can't drive 55, in the words of Sammy Hagar. Go around me./sarc

You young'uns missed Nixon's 55 mph hell. You got your license when? 1986-1987? Right when that idiotic law was repealed. Those of us who drove before that say "Never Again" to unrealistically slow speed limits.

have you been drinking?

have you ever traveled the ohio turnpike? How about I71,77,75,70,270, 275, 280, 76?

and my pick up has better mileage at 80mph as compared to 65. Significantly. Diesel engine.

why would you have to bribe, what everyone who drives a car wants.

I wish there was a 90mph plus lane on the interstates. I would pay a toll for one. Downtown Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo, Cleveland in an hour.

I believe Missouri has that setup on I-70 or I-270 around St. Louis. Speed limit was an electronic sign and varied according to traffic loads, maybe time of day, don't know, I was just passing through.

Worst president to ever get 61% of the vote. The present occupant of the White House is doing his best to emulate him with an enemies list, wanting gun control, neutering NASA and fundamentally destroying the economy.

I know. But you have to remember that morons like Che the Everest court reporter student are likely to stumble over these posts and makes fools of themselves. I'm just making it easier for them.
