In principle I agree totally that brutality against chilren should be severely punished. However, the exact wording of that law makes it dangerously open to be used aganst even mild and basic spanking.

Delaware's well-intentioned but iressponsible legislature has attemped to solve the Sahara by replacing it with Antarctica. From one ugly extreme to the opposite!

It's because of the recession, jail actually MAKES MONEY for the state officials, while taking out of the taxpayer's and the government's pocket.
You're telling people not to hit their children BUT, you're not teaching them HOW to teach their child right and wrong without using force. Many people don't understand how to punish their kids without hitting them, which is sad but true.Leading to many harmless people in jail that we as taxpayers have to pay for. No wonder kids are bringing guns to school, fighting, cussing at adults, and have no self-discipline or respect.

Ridiculous ! A swat on the backside of a badly behaved child is not harmful and it certainly shows the child who the boss is. This is why children from the New England states have no respect for anyone. They tell teachers to "shut up" or "go f yourself". Children need to be taught consequences for their behavior and unfortunetly for some that may include a swat on the backside.
There us a big difference between an open hand swat on the backside and child abuse such as hitting a child with a belt or other objects. No one wants to see a child abused but there has to be a better way of letting a child know who the boss is and it is you the parent. Instead the children threaten the parents that they will report them to the child protective agency of their state. If I ever said that to my father he would dial the number for me, then hand me the receiver.
If the state governments can not determine what is child abuse and what is not I do feel sorry for all the adults out there that will be tolerating these brats.

The government needs to stay the hell away from parenting!
