Civil unions may add to economy

Full story: Daily Times

Even though Delaware's civil union law doesn't go into effect for another seven months, Rehoboth Beach's Chris Beagle and Eric Engelhart are not only beginning preparations for their ceremony, but for many others as well.

I wish the best to businesses catering to civil union celebrations (as well as the celebrants, of course!). But I think they'd have a much better business case if Delaware had opted for true marriage equality.

If someone's having a destination celebration (like Rehoboth Beach), why wouldn't they instead have an actual wedding in Provincetown? I can understand why some couples feel a need to formalize their relationship in their own state even though they are already married elsewhere, but how many of them are going to spend big bucks celebrating second-class legal recognition when they are already married?

I would expect a trickle of local events.

There are two sides to this. Civil unions are silly, pointless bullshit because they are NOT the equivalent of marriage.

But can you blame them?

The pro-gay won't fight this properly. You can't get these people to *REALLY* fight this as savagely as they need to in order to gain genuine marriage equality. No matter WHAT you say or do, you CANNOT get the pro-gay to do about this what they *REALLY* should be doing.

So it's pointless to criticize this, at this point. The stupid, second-class civil unions are going to have to serve, because no one will wake up. This is what you get when you refuse to fight, so deal with it.

Daily Horoscope for May 19

Scorpio

There are days when you feel you can't say or do anything right, but happily this isn't one of them. In fact, it's a wonderful day in which everything goes well and it's remarkably easy to get on well with whoever happens to be around. Not that you want to spend your time with just any old person. You'd much rather get together with some close friends or that special someone in your life.
