Tom, my understanding is that Diaz made this outrageous statement in public, rather than in the chamber.*Assuming* that is the case, would gay persons of faith have the right to take action for slander against him as he has deliberately misrepresented their views. Because I'm not a USAn, the fine print, as it were, of parliamentary privilege in the US is unknown to me. Herein the UK or in Aussie, however, he would certainly be open to such an acton for slander

It is important to write the senator to thank him for his stance against this ridiculous idea. Most congressmen either don't care or don't bother to pay attention when crazy ideas like this are attempted to be slipped through when no one is looking. Its good to encourage this senator so that maybe he will introduce legislation of his own to preempt these measures in the future such as mandatory mental treatment for these people to bring their behavior back to normal.
Normal people arent obsessed with being normal or obsessed with other peoples lives when their lives in no way impact yours.

The crazy idea here: Tyring to deny legal citizens equal rights.

If I was Governor Paterson I would resign out of sheer incompetency. His record speaks for itself. Senator Diaz is courageous to stand up to the liberal politically-correct orthodoxy of the lunatic fringe of the Democratic Party. Same-Sex marriage is contary to the laws of nature and God. The proponents of same-sex marriage want to impose the full-scale agenda of gays on all New Yorkers.
Remember - The New State Court of Appeals ruled in 2006 that Same-Sex Marriage was not a civil right! I expect most Republicans in the State Legislature will vote against this crazy idea. A number of Democrats will join them (Profiles in Courage). It must be defeated at all costs.
Hahahaahaha. Homophobic paranoia is fun to watch.

Impose? You dont have to recognize or accept anything. You dont have to get married to a gay. You arent being forced to do anything. So threatened by something that dosent affect you.

Same-sex marriage is against the laws of nature?

Homosexuality is rampant in nature as are gay/lesbian couples.

Same-sex marriage is against God? This country is not a theocracy, the constitution is not the Bible, the Bible never condemns same-sex marriage and religious marriage and civil marriage are seperate.

Its too bad you are so paranoid over something that in no way affects you. I mean, whats really crazy is that you think you have a valid reason to deny legal citizens equal rights. You dont.

Hahahaahaha, so threatened by something so trivial. Fudgepacker? 30+% of heterosexuals have anal sex. Only 56% of gay men have anal sex. There are more heterosexuals who have anal sex than gay men. Dumbass.

The majority is with him? That is COMPLETELY false.

We have to draw the line? Hahahaha, you dont EVEN KNOW what you are against. Marriage is only between a man and a woman? Who said that? The Bible never condemns same-sex marriage. The constitution sure doesn't say that. Fact is, that is the INCORRECT definition of marriage.

Weird sexual practices? No, not really. The sex we have is not much different than the sex heterosexuals have. And isnt it funny how homophobes are SO FIXATED on the sex gay/lesbian people have. They base their entire opinions on gay/lesbian people on the SEX they have. Thats not normal. Heterosexuals are not obsessed or fixated on the sex gay/lesbian people have. The type of sex gay/lesbian people have is their buisness, and you need to get your eyes out of their bedroom.

P.S. There must be a link between homophobia and lying, because it seems your addicted to it.

I notice you say "How and what 'two' consenting 'adults' spend their life". That means you don't approve of two consenting children getting married, right? Or one consenting adult and one consenting child. Or three consenting adults, and so on.
My point being: You, like everyone else, have your own idea of who should be treated equally under the law, and who shouldn't be.
I'm not saying you're right or wrong, just that we ALL have a limit to what we consider acceptable. Unfortunately for you, most peoples' limit, when it comes to marriage, is one woman and one man.
And that limit is unconstitutional, so thats too bad for the people who consider homophobia acceptable.

Who should be treated equally under the law? All legal citizens. Does homosexuality/homosexuality negatively impact society or heterosexuals in any way? No. Time to move on and get over it.

I see mankind raising the bar on what should be acceptable until pretty soon we won't be able to see the bar any longer. When that happens, we've done a 180 back to UNcivilization. I'm sure your parents are real proud about your decision. After all, they are parents. Stick with those who think like you and you will be safe from the truth. What's next? Well, I'd like to marry my sow over here, I hear she makes really good bacon.
My decision? What exactly is my decision? My parents? My parents, who by the way are Catholic conservative and voted Republican until this past election, have no problem with me being gay. Because they understand that my sexuality DOESN'T CHANGE WHO I AM AS A PERSON AND THAT IT IS NOT A BIG DEAL. Why dont you realize that? Why are you so fixated on gay peoples sexuality?

The bar has been elevated. Homophobia is being rightfully shoved from society. Safe from the truth? The truth that homophobia is wrong and irrational, I already know that.

Your sow cant give consent. Gay/lesbian people can and are legal citizens. All legal citizens require equal rights under the law.

You're free to stay home and hide in the closet so stop trying to pass laws that give you depraved kooks the "right" to stalk young children into public bathrooms so you can rape them.
Religion is a choice, so obviously religion shouldn't be protected.

Decent society? Can you actually show what makes someones sexual orientation not decent? Stay in the closet? No, we are legal citizens, we have every right to be in society as heterosexuals do, and we have nothing to hide from. Because heterosexuals and homosexuals are NO DIFFERENT other than the sex we have. And real heterosexuals are not obsessed or fixated on the sex homosexuals have.

Stop trying to pass laws for our equality? What, you threatened and scared? Legal citizens require equal rights. Time to get over it.

Oh and your little "rape" line is CLEARLY you venting. The man who raped you was a pedophile. He was not gay. He was a pedophile. I hope you get the mental treatment you need, as obviously your rape is still haunting you.

Hi! Flyboy:
And why should your parents have a problem with your sexuality? You don't have any problem with their sexuality. Gibran, an Indian philosopher once wrote-your children do not belong to you, they belong to the Universe.
Part of the bar is-acceptance is out. Respect is in.
Nobody needs anybody's acceptance, we all crave for respect.
I, presonally, never gave a flying fig for my parent's acceptance on my sexual orientation. I respected their rules, for I was living under their roof, so it was their prerrogative to set them.
Wht they decided to accept or not, it was their problem, and they had to deal with the consequences of their decision. Now, respect wasn't an option, you either give it or restrain from it, but that's what you'll get in return.
I've always lived by that "bar". That's my personal "bar". I don't care if you're a homophobe, racist, misogynist, all the biggies. This is a free country, and you choose what are you going to embrace in your adulthood. But, we can differ respectfully, and if we don't, then it is our civic responsibility to learn.
I am a strong believer of the Catholic faith, most of my friends are atheists, we have the most heated arguments, but all frameworked in mutual respect, and when the going gets rough, humor dissipates anything (everybody loves to laugh), if you can't laugh at your ridiculousness, then you need help (I'm talking figuratively here, not to you in particular).
Jorge de P.Rico
P.S.
Thanks for giving me the op. to state my opinion on this "bar" issue.
Your welcome and I completely agree. Why would they have a problem with my sexuality? I mean, they are the ones who created me and therefore created me gay. I dont see why there would be an issue there, and there isnt.

And like you said, I dont need anyones acceptance. I dont even need respect completely, except from people Im close too and trust. All I ask for is human decency. And the problem is, many homophobes do NOT show human decency. But like you, I try to follow a Godly path, so I dont engage in that hateful diatribe. You just have to keep your head up and be positive in this world full of negative.

Actually many of the framers of the declaration of independence and the constitution wanted to abolish slavery and create equal rights for women, and there were many who saw it as an end to their way of life. America has fought to provide equality for all, and now that the fight has been won we are searching for something to fight for. Unfortunately, it has created a battle for crimininals, gays, abortionists, and the lowest form of humanity. The result will be a crumbling of morality and, eventually, the destruction of all that is good in America.

liberals kill america--"Actually many of the framers of the declaration of independence and the constitution wanted to abolish slavery and create equal rights for women, and there were many who saw it as an end to their way of life."

On slavery this is correct, not nearly so much so on women's rights which didn't reach mainstream acceptance until some time later. That's the brilliance of the founders, the constitution has evolved as America and the world have moved forward.

"America has fought to provide equality for all, and now that the fight has been won"

Wow, that's really absurdly and dangerously false. No, it absolutely has NOT been won, not at all. Progress has been made, but equality for all is STILL not acheived. Not at all.

"we are searching for something to fight for. Unfortunately, it has created a battle for crimininals,"

Whose constitutional rights are violated daily in many places across the nation.

"gays,"

Comparing gays to criminals shows how far from caring for equality you are, and this is just one more example of what a load of bull your claim we have equality for all is.

"abortionists,"

You mean health care professionals and women...I thought you cared about the equality of women!

"and the lowest form of humanity."

There's that bigotry and hate that is the reason we still have to fight for equality, which is still far from having been acheived.

"The result will be a crumbling of morality"

Your bigotry and discrimination are the height of immmorality.

"and, eventually, the destruction of all that is good in America."

You sound like something from 1952, arging that discrimination for "All that is good in America" was "moral". That's just sick. You don't represent anything good about America, just sunshine patriots waving the flag but not caring a bit what it really stands for when those rights extend to people you don't like or want to be equal.
