The fact that a vote on marriage Equality won't be held is not surprising. There are too many Democrats against it.

No sense pushing a vote now with basically the same Senate as the last time. Wait for the new Senate with Gov Cuomo to hopefully push it through.

I agree.

And as far as I know, all of the Senate races have STILL not been decided so nobody knows which party will have a majority next month.

And MY congressional race has ALSO not been decided yet.

I just read a news report that seems to indicate that the current New York Senate, which is controlled by the Democrats with 32 Senators to the Republican's 30 Senators, will reverse this January with 32 Republicans and 30 Democrats. A pick up of 4 Senate seats for the Republicans.

What affect this will have on the Marriage Equality fight, one can only guess right now.

The presumed GOP Senate leader has already said he is open to having a vote on marriage equality. Of course if all the GOP Senators vote against it like they did last time, then it doesn't matter, but at least there's a chance of a vote.

I hope Marriage Equality is made the law this coming year in New York.

Remember that EIGHT Democratic Senators voted against it last time, sending it down to defeat.

As did ALL THIRTY Republican Senators. Not everything has to be a Dem v GOP issue, but if you insist-

75% of Dems voted in favor of marriage equality.
0% of GOPs voted in favor of marriage equality.

So who's more to blame for the defeat of the bill???

Democrats.

I am cautiously optimistic that it will pass this year though.

Incidentally HALF of those Democrats who voted against it were all from Queens (Long Island).
