McVea Supports Renaming the Bridge

There are 172 comments on the www.2theadvocate.com story from Mar 20, 2011, titled McVea Supports Renaming the Bridge. In it, www.2theadvocate.com reports that:

State Rep. Tom McVea, R-St. Francisville, said he would offer legislation to rename the new John James Audubon Bridge between Point Coupee and West Feliciana parishes after two native sons with distinguished military careers.

The name change would recognize U.S. Marine Corps commandants — John A. LeJeune, of Pointe Coupee Parish, and Robert H. Barrow, of West Feliciana Parish.

“Where else in the United States do you think there are two famous generals in adjoining parishes connected by a bridge?” McVea said.

A Zachary Taylor Parkway Commission official suggests naming the approaches after the former Marine Corps leaders and leaving what will be the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America named after the famed naturalist, who painted part of his historic “Birds of America” series at nearby Oakley Plantation in the 1820s.

“Those two guys are great people and deserve to be honored. But we want the tourism aspect” associated with Audubon’s name, said Curtis Jelks, who chairs the commission.

The regular legislative session opens April 25.

Thank God the ridiculous discussions over the naming of "the bridge" seem to be over. We now need to discuss the naming of our congressional reps. should they allow our country to go broke. If their re-election is more important to them than is their country, I suggest we aptly name them "ancient history." I WILL NOT vote for an incumbent that would allow this to happen.

Once in a while you will stumble upon the truth but most of us manage to pick ourselves up and hurry along as if nothing had happened.

You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.

The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.(my favorite)

Winston Churchill

I have studied this great man for years obviously you have not. He did use the term "self-aggrandisement " quite often however never in the quote you provided. Since you apparantly pieced your quote together with picked and chosen word to define your belief no thought provoking reflection is required,,,,I unabashedly admit I have a self-aggrandisement attitude / personality because I am confident in my abilities and what I do to help my fellow Veterans.
Done here, moving on to the next project,,,P.S.,,,have a nice day :)

Seems like you're the one your fellow veterans need to help instead of the other way around.
