RE: Turtletown's "not a hate crime," crime:
Sheriff Davis initially told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that this incident "was not a hate crime." It was, he said, a crime of vandalism.(Chattanooga Times Free Press 6/16/2011) Now he says that he does not want to confirm or deny the nature of this crime until the investigation is complete.
Well done Sheriff Davis. It doesn't hurt to brush up on the TN Civil Rights Intimidation Law or to acquaint yourself with what sorts of "incidents" may give rise to a federal civil rights claim.
Hopefully if there is a "next time", you'll get it right the first time.
