Pontiac sold the Silverdome, a building I love, for a mere $550,000 when it would cost $200M to duplicate. On the same basis, an emergency manager could sell Belle Isle for Cracker Jack trinkets.

Detroit has location, Belle Isle and control of the water most of us drink. Detroit has a plan and it's sitting up in Lansing right now waiting to be implemented starting at the end of March or earlier. March 28 is the date when a new EM plan becomes effective. Snyder will probably act now under the old law rather than give Detroit the multiple choices under the new plan.

The clock does not stop. Change will occur.

As far as the state taking over to help detroit, well... it is about time.They should get rid of the city council and never bring it back,they say no to everything that could help. They should have been kicked out as soon as mayor young left office. and as far as the crime... they are all crooks, from the bottom to the top, just watch the newa and you will see how many crooks there are.

The state is far from having clean hands in this affair as well. I'm not one of those who say the state owes Detroit money because of promised revenue sharing. That whole story is farcical. However, Detroit has been running a $100M plus deficit for many years and the state had to approve the borrowing Detroit made to stay solvent. If they had drawn the line in the earlier years, the problems could have been addressed then. They let it slide just like Detroit has let property tax bills slide and the Detroit Water & Sewage fails to collect bills. Now we're all going to pay the bills, which will be disguised many ways. Some will be in taxes directly to residents and others will be in our socialization through federal programs. But we will pay. So there can be no glee in Detroit failing.

The corrupt city miss managers at every level, overly aggressive union contracts , the people in charge of Detroit for the past 53 years have brought the city to where it is now, Dysfunctional, broke not fixable as presently constituted.

They don't have any idea how to or interest in changing the gravy train.
