The Jehovah's Witnesses are fully justified in complaining. They were there before the pub. The brewery is going back on the agreement with the local authority. The name Ravenscroft is a pathetic attempt to drum-up business. The pub customers should try to avoid upsetting the Witnesses, Jehovah may come to their aid and ruin the pub meals by sending swarms of flies, as he did in Exodus 8:21-31.

Funny! Any church would complain about such a thing. I'm sure it won't be allowed.

But if it is, you can be sure Jehovah's people will come up with a creative way of dealing with it.

I liked the comment about you would probably find jesus sitting over with the people having a pint and talking about the kingdom.
That is interesting , one could set up a speaker system so people having a pint could listen to the information from scripture, what a golden opportunity.

The letter reads:“We are of the opinion the proposed use would adversely affect the quiet enjoyment by the Heswall Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses of the Kingdom Hall building immediately to the rear of the proposed licensed area.

“We consider the use of the area on the other side of a fence to our property would be an un-neighbourly development, should there be a granting of its use for alcohol and food consumption and allowing customers to smoke in this area.”
----------

Attendance at the meetings would most likely decline if the pub gets its wishes.

I think this is just another opportunity for JWs to cry PERSECUTION. In reality, merely having an outdoor pub adjacent to the KH lot shouldn't affect the meetings in any way. When I was young we lived in Toronto and went the Gerrard Hall. This KH was right up to the sidewalk just like all the other buildings, you literally stepped off the sidewalk and into the entrance of the KH on this very busy and noisy street. Inside the Hall we didn't hear any of that racket. Noise from the outside seating area of a pub would be mild in comparison to the noise just literally feet away from old KH on Gerrard Street.

Maybe they're worried about the closet drinkers slippin' out during the opening song ;)

They should switch faiths for a few weeks, be muslim, then complain about the pub, shortly thereafter it will be closed down.

Or maybe jehovah will install a large window in the kh and all the pedofiles will be exposed. Then the pub can stay there.

after the meeting, members would go there, since it is so close,...... and have a few drinks, and slowly learn the truth from others there......... so, no wonder they want it shut down.

jw elders and ministerial servants can really put the booze down....... a lot of them can out-drink most of the drunks in town.

just ask booze rutherford.
he even knew how to get it during the period where it was outlawed...... it helped him invent 1925 and other prophecys...

jws are the biggest hypocrites in town, but they know how to work legal stuff..... rutherford made sure of that....... that's how he seized all the assets of russel.

And, off they go again....whining that "their rights" are being violated. No one else can do anything if the JWs don't like it. Pathetic whiners.

Hi lise, you're right. A little bit of poetic justice lol

They should have taken the high road on this, by extending a hand of friendship and try to get assurances that staff will be mindful to keep things down to a dull roar during meeting times ;)

After meeting the b/s could go for a meal, they could probably get group discounts...turn it into a popular JW hangout lol maybe even get food items named after WT stuff...'Tower Burgers...GB Salad...Franz Fries...Publisher's Platter...hey on Memorial night they could have the wine hand-delivered along with bread sticks or pretzels for the PARTAKERS.

Have a good day, lise :)

The church I was saved in is situated between two public public houses, and we had a good witness and testimony to those that were going there, some even asked us about our faith, although at times the drink got the better of some, so I really do not see what the problem is, we need to be seperate from the world but not seperated from them, christians will know what I mean when I say that

Amazing that there is so much control being put on property that is owned by some one else... Maybe the pub should get a discount on their taxes ... as they can't live up to their potential... you think??? After all ... factually they do pay taxes .. So are an asset to the community. Sort of.
The fact that churches take up so much land and pay no tax for it .. is part of the reason.. places are balking at having more built..

Hey Wonder, I think all churches should pay taxes like any other business. If they need tax writeoffs then donate money to the poor.
