Senators look for smoking gun linking BP oil deal, release of Lockerbie bomber

Jul 16, 2010 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: WPMT-TV York

BP's oil spill notoriety is reviving unwelcome attention from Congress on another issue: whether the oil company sought the release of convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdel Baset al-Megrahi to help get a $900 million exploration agreement with Libya off the ground.

I wouldn't doubt it for a second that BP lobbied for Libya.

I don't doubt it either, but doesn't it seem kind of odd that the Obama Administration brings this up now?

They will stop at nothing to make BP the SOLE villain in the the Gulf disaster, even though they are equally culpable.

That being said, this one really stinks, and so does BP ( and Barack Obama ).

Corruption like this is prevalent in almost every large corporation. It is a sad bi-product of a profoundly faulty economic system.

Is this like Denise Rich contributing to the Clintons and her ex hubby, Mark, gets a pardon from him?

Ultimately, the Obama administration gave their nod.

Amazing how quickly governments are prepared to deal.

Shame on Tony Blair and Obama.

Corporations have no idea of right or wrong-only profit. If they did support a terrorist,America should run them out of business.Corporations must know they can't play both sides of the fence. They have no loyalty to any country-only profit. They respect no laws -only the ones they can't buy or bribe.

Corporations will always lobby for their benefit . It's up to the elected and appointed officials to make the right call.

Right now corporations are for opening better trade and relations with Cuba that I agree with . Yes , they want it for profits and I want it as it seems about time to back off the Cold War mentality.

Its amazing that our senators have the time to investigate corruption outside the USA.Dont we have enought corruption in Washington for them to investigate?
Whay is it that we only have the energyt to bring down others outside our country, when we are PLAGUED with our own problems that needs investigating.
Lets clean up America, before we clean up other countries.

great, and when they're gone you can return to being a subsistence farmer, if you're fortunate to own any land. Or maybe a share cropper would suit you better.

What the hell would BP want with some dying Lybian
in exchange for oil rights? My gosh British Petroleum {BP} has been in the Middle East since 1948!! It's just a coincidence, but that filth
Congress Representative Attenburg makes an issue when there is none! Classic grandstanding! Comparing apples with oranges! Distorting the facts, omitting key points {Lybia paid enormous reparations to Lockerbie victims}; misrepresenting other peoples' positions; telling half truths and fantasizing that BP be intimidated run into the ground; when they already volunteered to guarantee
more than their legal $75 millions Maritime liability to place in open escrow $20 billions dollars, up to even $50 billions for the Trans Ocean Deepwater Horizon BP Gulf Oil rig, April 20th. 2010 tragic spill; with posponements of dividends to keep liquid cash on hand!!
