The conversation, on March 20, was reported by the woman to Merseyside Police. Officers told the couple that they wanted to interview them over the incident.

After being questioned on April 20, they were interrogated again three months later before being charged on July 29 with a religiously-aggravated public order offence ..."

This is unbelievable; if convicted, the couple faces fines of £2,500 each and a criminal record.

Oh didn't you hear? Islam is pushing for global blasphemy laws honest to goodness which means islam muslims can persecute non muslims to hell and back and non muslims are just supposed to kiss there butts for it!
But by Allah no non muslim had better say a word that might offend a muslim ,Even if that muslim is preaching you to hell threatening you and everything else because there hatred is protected by the blaphemy laws .

I think every Tom, Dick and Harry declare their religious preference before any Muslims they meet, demand Muslims to serve whatever they desire and then sue the shit out of them Muslims for insulting their faiths for being uncooperative. For example , Demand that Muslims at all eataries ensure there is no certified 'halal' food in your dish.

Have I just woken up in a dictatorship?

In yesterday's newspaper it tells the tragic story of a mother with a severely handicapped daughter and a son, being tormented and hounded by yobs for 10 years and how she repeatedly phoned the police for help. The police did nothing to help this poor beseiged lone mother and in a final desperate act she set alight her car while she and her daughter were inside.
Now I read that THIS!!!!! It would be laughable if it wasn't so bloody tragic.
Is there any hope for this country?

Telling the truth is not illegal. It does not matter who it applies to. The truth is more important than taqiyya. Islamic history shows that Muhammad was responsible for the massacre of all the men of the Banu Qurayza and the enslavement of the women and children. The Quran says slaves may be raped. Those are the actions of a warlord. If muslims don't like the truth about their religion they should go to a muslim country where the truth is called taqiyya.

How exactly is stating facts abt. Mohammad -- he WAS a warlord -- or an opinion that Muslim dress is a form of female bondage -- an opinion also held by many in France -- is "humiliating and degrading"?

The "charges" against this couple don't even violate the Topix user agreement, yet you can be arrested for stating factual opinions in the UK to the wrong people.

If there are going to be global blasphemy laws then let's make sure Muslim countries be made to stop persecuting Muslims who want to convert to Christianity. If it's blasphemy to criticize Islam, then it's must also be considered blasphemy to criticize and/or harass Muslims who want to convert to Christianity. If Muslim countries are compelled to stop persecution and are forced to prosecute those who merely insult a Muslim who wishes to convert to Christianity, there will be mass conversions from Islam to Christianity.

Let's start by forcing the Saudi Arabian government to allow Bibles to be brought in and sold and allow churches to be built as easily as building mosques.

Obviously the whole idea of blasphemy laws is ridiculous, but if there is going to be anything remotely like such laws, then let's make sure Muslims and Muslim countries be accountable as well.

The thing is the Qu'ran and hadiths insult ALL non muslims as well as some muslims so they can legally insult persecute and threaten anyone they want basically just by reading there own texts and those who give a damn about islams victims would be bound and gagged un able to tell that truth which might offend islam.
Blaphemy laws basically give islam free reign to persecute and kill!
And binds the hands and mouths of non muslims so there not even premitted to defend themselves against islam thats why 57 islamic nations with all that Islamic money and power pressured the UN to bow to islam!
