I work with Mary Beth Palo, the mom of a child with autism. She had a lot of success making her own video to help her son learn appropriate behavior and the company she now runs, Watch Me Learn, has just released a video based teaching program for preK-3rd graders with autism. Video has long been known to be an effective teaching method for kids with autism and aspergers.

Her instructional video is great, and even better are the lesson plans which really demystify autism for educators. The curriculum has the endorsement of ABLLS-R (an evaluative tool for kids with autism) author, Dr. James Partington, Ph.D. Its been piloted in several schools around the country also.

Call me naive, but I believe most teachers would do a better job of reinforcing appropriate behavior if they knew HOW to do that for kids with autism. Take a look at it...www.watchmelearn.com. We are trying to get the word out, but it takes a 'noisy parent' to push schools into trying new things.

Mary Beth and those of us who work with her have created a teaching program like what we would've like to see our own kids have in school when they were younger. Its just another example of what the article above talks about being a successful learning opportunity for kids on spectrum.
