I am wondering why Quentin Crisp's name keeps on being bandied about. I sugest you learn to live with the fact that there are a large number of 'gays' in Manchester, and have been since I can remember, myself being a Mancunian and I still visit.
They are less of a 'problem' than the majority of those who call themselves straight.
Canal Street is a very nice area where most of the patrons at the little cafes along the street are gay, keep out of their way, they will keep out of yours.
