No, Muslim extremism has always existed within the Muslim society (it's not a peaceful history) and needed no 'outside' influence to see it grow. As the world evolved into a true global economy these Muslim extremists found another enemy to add to their list.

As long as Islam teaches that Muslims are obliged to gain and hold political power, these extremists Muslims will always be with us.

No, it is obvious that when you declare war based on lies for oil,drop bombs and fire missiles, that the populations suffering this, will be extremists.
Imagine if some invading or occupying force killed your family you would be an extremist...
