I enjoyed an excellent cup of coffee at Costa Coffee in Southwold, friendly staff, good service, and a nice pastry. In the past I have used small local coffee shops but the claim by one establishment that is was protecting Southwold from Costa caused me to visit the new Costa outlet. With the rapid rise in the price of property in Southwold the residents of this small town must be pleased with the nest egg that many are sitting on, however the down side is the fact that a small local business cannot afford the rents that such high property prices have produced.
If you are good your business will succeed but don't resort to attacking those who wish to trade in Southwold. On a cold winters day in Febraury the local Tesco was very busy, I doubt that many customers were visiting there second homes at this time of year !!!! All businesses face competition but very few feel they have the right to some special protection especially when new jobs are being offered. Costa is open until the early evening even in winter, thus creating more job opportunities.
