BUS users face a double whammy of rising fares and cuts to services as council transport budgets are slashed by more than 500,000. Councils and bus operators have blasted the Welsh Government for imposing year on year reductions of 27% and warned of dire consequences for passengers when they are introduced in April.

With the financal crisis hitting almost all public services buses unfortunately have to take their fare share. As a frequent user of Powys buses I must say that the council have done a good job in cutting in cutting back very lightly used services.
There is perhaps one huge discrepancy, that of service 41 connecting Kington and Newtown. While the level of service is admirable the few passengers (usually less than 8 or 10) cannot warrant the subsidy for this level of service which could be used elsewhere in the network.
A fair allocation of resources will give a leaner but adequate rural bus network.
