Olympics Global Rainbow artwork lights up Whitley Bay

Bands of colour transformed the coastline last night as Global Rainbow, a 50,000 artwork created by American artist Yvette Mattern, was switched on for the first time.

total shambles on Saturday night . Whitley Bay gridlocked with cars trying to get away from the very disappointing single horizontal light. A bad night for North Tyneside. Linda Arkley should be told ! Hope this is not a typical example of the Olympics to come!

Wow George how miserable are you? The lights looked great. You had to spend a bit of time walking around and viewing them from different angles to really appreciate them, but I'm sure thousands of people will disagree with you. I suspect you just need to get out more.

Just thinking maybe the lights were not so great, george might have been right. I have been looking at them since last week the lights i can see from London might just be the local indians and not the lights 400 miles away....very odd
