One does not need a God to have morals. Morals can be formed from having a clear picture of what humans need to have a successful society.

If you have to be brainwashed by a preacher into doing what's right, then there's no way you will know what's really right ... and that preacher has control of your actions as well.

You are correct, and yet incorrect, because for most of them it is actually a method of justifying their horrible actions, they just say "god told me to" and think that absolves them of responsibility, and worse, society allows them to do that more often than not. An atheist that does not kill is smart, a religious person that does not kill is a grenade.
