Language learning is obviously a good thing - but which languages?

I'd like to suggest that we use Esperanto as an introduction to language learning.

I suggest that we use Esperanto as an introduction to language learning here in Wales.

Iíve used Esperanto in speech and writing in about fifteen countries over recent years, and I recommend it to any traveller as a way of overcoming barriers and making friendly local contacts. I am no less British when I speak Esperanto, of course. Each speaker of Esperanto brings with him / her ideas and traditions from his native tongue, but that mother tongue remains intact.

Brit's are notoriously lax at learning another language.

Half of them can't even speak their own language properly.

So, how do you explain that half of the world accepts to speak English then?
